When I woke up this morning, my mind was on one thing: getting Remi to understand what we are and to have that happen quickly. There was no way I could let her go back to her place. Not after how she described the place to me. That was not happening.

Especially after I got everything I could about her pulled. Both of her roommates have a bit of a sketchy past. The girl has some fraud crap with scamming credit cards, but the guy had two hits on his record for roughing up a few exes in his past. She’s been living with these people for a few months. Even thinking about her spending one night there has me on the verge of going over the edge.

Her life has been way too fucking hard. It seems like it’s been one negative thing after another. She could never catch a break. That shit ends now. Her old boss at the law firm isn’t going to get away with his shit either. I already tracked him down, and he’ll be hit with an investigation very soon. When I’m done with him, he’ll be lucky if the only thing I take from him is his right to practice law.

“Wait. Did I just hear you right?” Faith asks, clearly shocked that I even admitted to having a type. I’m holding the phone out to stare at the picture of Remi that Faith sent to me. “You’re into her?” Saying I’m into her is putting it mildly. I plan on making her my wife as soon as she lets me.

“She’s mine.”

“Wow. You sound like Dad.” She laughs. “Is this really happening? Has Grant finally been struck by his one?” I can hear the excitement in her voice.

“This is nuts,” I admit.

I’ve never been a big believer in fate, but clearly the universe was working to bring Remi and me together. Even if I hadn’t met her last night, it sounds like I would have today. Unless something had happened to her last night at that club. I push that thought out of my head, not wanting to go there. Remi is fine. She’s sleeping peacefully in my bed where she belongs.

“So you’re coming then? I texted her to make sure she’ll be here today but haven’t heard back yet.”

“She’ll be there,” I say with a smile. I’m never going to hear the end of this, but I don’t really give a shit. “I’ll see you soon,” I tell her before I end the call. I clear out a few more emails and check the time again. Remi has been asleep for a while, and I want to let her rest, but damn, do I want her to wake up too.

Closing everything, I decide I’ll go lie down with her until she wakes up. I’ve handled what needs to be handled, and got what information I needed. The rest is going to rely on how Remi is going to feel about everything.

Sure, it’s nuts for her to move in already, but why not? Her place isn’t safe, and I’ve got more than enough room for her here. I can also reassure her that if she ever wants to leave, Faith would always let her stay with her until she got on her feet. That’s never going to happen, but it might make Remi feel more secure in giving up her apartment. I have to understand that she might not be as far along as I am with the plans for our future. I get it. This is all fucking nuts, but the reality is this is how most of my family operates.

“The fuck?” I mutter when I make it to the bedroom and see that the bed is empty. “Remi!” I call out as I jog through the house, trying to find her. I run back to the bedroom when I can’t find her and realize her purse is gone.

The hell. Why would she slip out on me? Panic starts to grip me. I pull out my phone and look up her address. Damn, do I love technology. I had my assistant get Remi’s purse last night. I’d snapped a pic of her ID, and that’s how I started to get everything about her pulled. I also shared her location on her phone with me. With everything that went down last night at the strip club, I needed to make sure she was safe at all times.

Some of the panic leaves me when I see she’s at her place. At least I know where the hell she is. What I don’t understand is why she would up and leave. I need to see about getting an alert set up on the front gate when people exit and not just enter.

It takes twenty minutes to get across town to her apartment building. The place puts me on edge. I spot a million places that would be unsafe for a woman to be alone at night. She’s so damn small and sweet. How someone hasn’t gotten their hooks into her before now I’ll never know. It’s a damn miracle. Remi is this fiery bright light that’s unmissable.
