We move to the table; I sit on the floor as he spreads out the papers and he sits beside me.
He explains the situation, asking me to highlight certain spends, dates, and locations of product. It’s not difficult but it is repetitive and tiresome. It reminds me of when we worked together in his hotel room, the night we both thought about the number six.
After a few hours, Wayne, the errand boy, brings us lunch and I’m happy when the sandwich I ordered is exactly how I wanted it. Though I did write it down for him to pass to them twice.
As we eat, my phone vibrates.
It’s Pax. I can’t stifle my stupid grin.
Pax: Are you free tonight?
Rose: You’re not tired after last night?
Pax: Nope. Are you?
Rose: I might sleep for a year.
Pax: I have a really big, comfy bed at my place… just saying.
Rose: I have work tomorrow.
Pax: Wow. Coincidence. Me too.
Pax: So… my place after work?
Pax: Pack an overnight bag.
Rose: I didn’t say yes.
Pax: You’re going to and we both know it. I’m very persuasive. I’ll even make you cum 6 times again.
Rose: I don’t think I can physically handle 6 more… but we could do something else?
Pax: Whatever you want, baby. Just be here.
I put my phone down on the table and glance at Mr. C who is glaring at my phone like he wants it to burst into flames.
“It’s my lunch break,” I say, shaking my sandwich at him and his eyes come to mine. “You can’t be mad at me for texting on my lunch break.”
“I’m not mad,” he answers, blinking rapidly to clear his head and then smiling.
“You were glaring at my phone.”
He chuckles nervously. “No, I was just lost in thought and your phone happened to be in my line of sight.” He rests back bending his leg at the knee. “Are you coming to the staff Halloween party?”
“Hell yeah, I’m bringing Laurie. I love Halloween.”
“What costume are you wearing?”
I tap my nose and take another large bite of this delicious sandwich. I’ll be sad when it’s all gone. I am starving. Who would have thought all that sex would work up such an epic appetite?
“What are you wearing?”
He scoffs playfully. “You think I’m telling you mine if you won’t tell me yours?”
“Fair play.” I grin, nudging his shoulder with mine.
“So… how was your date?”
My cheeks heat, likely glowing red and I can’t stop the smile on my face.
“That good, huh?” he mutters, placing his empty sandwich bag on the table and wiping his hands on a napkin.
“Amazing,” I respond genuinely, grinning at him like the Cheshire cat. He can probably see all of my teeth so I try to tone it down. “Pax is——”
“A massive player,” he states, matter of fact, and my spine stiffens. “Be careful with him. He’ll take what he wants and then drop you. He does it all the time.”
I gape at him, feeling my temper breach the surface of my calm. “You have no right to say that.”
“I’m your friend,” he implores, placing his hand on mine. “I have every right to say that.”
I shrug my shoulders. “That may be so but for all you know he’s changed. I could be different.”
He snorts and my temper further breaches the surface.
“Did you just snort at me?”
“You sound naïve and it’s going to get you hurt.” His hand that’s still on mine squeezes comfortingly. “I don’t want to see you get hurt.”
I want to be angry with him for prying but there’s genuine concern in his eyes and it makes my temper slink back to the cave it likes to hide in. “I’ll be careful.”
“That’s all I ask.”
We fall silent for a moment, both of us staring at the files we have to sort through. Such boring work.
Then, with a wicked grin he asks, “So… what was his number?”
I let my head fall back and return his devilish smile. “Which time?”
Chapter Twelve
The tone of his voice.
It has been twelve days since my date with Pax. Twelve amazing, sex-full, incredibly hot days, except for the days I had to travel with Mr. Conti which was an amazing time all on its own. So technically ten days of sex. It’s as though we can’t get enough of each other which makes sense for me because I was basically a virgin when we first started and he’s incredible in bed.
He is so attentive, loving, cuddly, a little bit clingy but I kind of like it. He doesn’t make a mess and he tidies up any mess he does make, he even hangs up his clothes as he removes them so I don’t stress about it.
I know Mr. C told me to be careful but how do I guard my heart from somebody so fucking amazing?
Pax: Come to my office.
Rose: I’m working.
Pax: I want your lips around my cock. It’s all I can think about.
