“Soon?”

“Yeah, Fletch, my guess is soon,” Crew answered with a shake of his head. “Pam—”

“The old stud muffin is on a first name basis with the AUSA. Makes you wonder, doesn’t it?” Decker snuck a glance at Cabrera to see if she reacted.

She didn’t. She had an expert poker face.

Crew ignored Big Deck and continued, “Pam decided to convene the grand jury to get the indictments rolling, hopefully before war breaks out between the Demons and the Russos.”

“I guess some of us could be called for testimony?” Finn asked.

“If the grand jury requests it, yeah,” Crew said, “and again during their trials.”

“Once the indictments are handed down, do you think this AUSA will let them turn themselves in or do a wham, bam, thank you, ma’am, round up?” Decker asked Crew.

“My guess? The second one since they’ll all be considered flight risks. They’re going to handle the MC like they would any other RICO case, since our evidence proves their criminal activities went further than only trafficking drugs.”

Wilder’s voice came from the speaker. “Money laundering is certainly part of a RICO charge. And I agree that they’ll want to do the shock and awe maneuver to arrest everyone at the same time. Otherwise, they’ll scatter the same way roaches do once a light’s turned on.”

“Speaking of the Mafia, what’s happening on that front?” Nox asked Crew. “We haven’t heard much about the Russos from you or anyone else when it comes to what the feds are doing on that end.” And something should be done, especially after they tried to off Wilder when they ambushed her at her condo. La Cosa Nostra needed to be annihilated the same as the Demons.

“I’ve been concentrating on the Demons and our part, but I can check on that. But the feds always have their finger on the pulse of any criminal organization like that. Right, Wilder?”

“That’s true,” she answered. “Usually more than one agency will have eyes on an enterprise like them.”

“If the feds are going to wipe out the Russos—legally, of course—they really should do it at the same time as they do the Demons. Otherwise, they might get squirrelly when they hear that their drug mules are being corralled.”

“Not my call,” Crew told Decker. “Let’s get back to our own investigation. The word is that the AUSA will request that the Demons are held without bail until trial. Of course, that’s due to them being flight risks. And also to prevent that war we’re all worried about.”

“Once this goes to trial, our part should be done,” Rodgers said.

“For the most part, except for any questions that might need answered or if we’re called to testify in either the grand jury or at the trials. No matter what, the task force will be dissolved after the indictments and arrests go down.”

“We get to take part in the round up, right?” Finn asked. “I have cuffs with Saint’s name engraved on them.”

“Well, damn, so do I,” said Rez.

“Any of you can volunteer to be a part of serving the indictments and arrest warrants, unless you’re still undercover,” Crew told them. “Or plan to do future undercover work within your own agency.”

Fletch groaned. “Nova and I will be stuck staying undercover to the very last fucking second, won’t we?”

“I told you before, brother, it’s good for the investigation to have eyes and ears in each chapter. If the Demons get a heads up that arrests are coming, we need to know that and move more quickly. We don’t want another ambush like what happened to Wilder, even though that had nothing to do with our particular investigation.”

“A-fucking-men.” Rez made the sign of the cross.

“Anyway, helping with the round-up is voluntary. No one’s required to do it, since we all know how dangerous that shit can get.”

“But fun,” Torres added.

That was true and Nox wanted to be a part of the team serving up those indictments and arrests. Unlike some others on the task force with significant others or families, he had nothing to lose if an arrest went bad.

Of course, with the Demons, he was pretty fucking sure some of the arrests would go bad. None of those outlaw bikers would go easily. They were going to do their worst by fighting back or trying to run.

Not only did it need to be a coordinated effort, but the teams would also need to hit them when the bikers least expected it.

“All right, so that’s the main shit I needed to share. Like I mentioned, questions will most likely arise that we’ll need to answer for the AUSA or the grand jury. Or even the judge. And if they request any of us to testify, you’ll be notified of the details. But for now, we’re going to keep on keeping on until we’re told differently by the individuals paid a much higher salary than mine. Side note: even if you don’t have to testify in front of the grand jury, don’t assume you won’t have to do it at trial. That means you need to make sure your reports are spot on. You don’t want to get jammed up on the witness stand because of shitty notes. Don’t forget, whatever you have written down can and will be used as evidence by both sides. Bottom line, whatever you do will be reflected on me as your leader. Let’s keep that in mind.”
