“Of course. I’ll text it to you,’” Callen promised. “See you at six.” Her phone buzzed a minute later.

West Fortieth Street? She had no idea where that was. Pressing on the address, Jordi checked the GPS. It was on the edge of town about twenty minutes from her apartment.

Checking the time, Jordi threw herself back into the remaining tasks she wanted to accomplish before calling it a day. When she took a break to use the restroom, Jordi called up the address on a site that would give her a view from eye level.

“Oh!” Jordi was amazed at the beautiful house that filled the screen. That looks like a Daddy house.

Forcing herself to concentrate on one last task, she got sucked into the job. When she caught sight of the time on her phone, Jordi cursed and grabbed for her phone. Sending him a message saying she was almost on her way, she took time to clean up the area before jumping in the truck. There wasn’t enough time to go home without being really late, so she drove right there.

A movement at the front of the house caught her attention, and she saw Callen stand to wave. He walked down from the front porch and indicated that she should pull into his driveway.

By the time she turned off the motor, Callen stood outside her door. Opening it, he leaned in to give her a hug before unbuckling her seatbelt and scooping her out of the driver’s seat. “I was worried you weren’t coming.”

He set her down on her feet and turned back toward the truck. He probably intended to grab her bag, but there was nothing in the cab. “Did you decide not to stay?”

“I lost track of time and rushed over here so I wouldn’t be too late.”

“Ah, gotcha. Come on in. We can figure everything out. I’m glad you’re here. Are you hungry?”

“Yes.” She let him take her hand and lead her toward the front door. Jordi hesitated at the sight of the long swing that still swayed on the porch. “You have a swing?”

“I do. Come sit down.”

Eagerly, she took a place at one end so he could sit at the other. Callen sat next to her and wrapped an arm around her. He set the swing gently in motion by pushing with his feet.

“I love to sit out here at night and swing. Look at that sunset,” he said, pointing toward the horizon.

The sky was streaked with bands of pink, yellow, blue, and purple. She leaned against his strength and looked at it in wonder. “I’d sleep out here,” she whispered.

“The mosquitos would eat you alive after the sun goes down. It’s almost over now. You arrived just in time to see it.”

When the last of the pink bands faded away, Jordi heard the high-pitched buzz of an insect next to her ear. “They’re here!”

“Quick! Let’s escape!”

Dashing inside, Jordi couldn’t help giggling as Callen slapped one of the bloodsuckers who’d managed to take a sip before they’d taken refuge inside.

“You! Laughing as your Daddy gets bitten,” Callen growled playfully.

“Sorry, Daddy,” Jordi said, slapping her hands over her mouth to keep her giggles inside.

“Give Daddy a kiss to make everything better,” he requested as he wrapped his arms around her to pull her close.

Jordi melted against him as his mouth pressed against hers. Softly at first, wooing her to respond. When she did, he deepened the kiss and dipped inside to taste her. Jordi wrapped her arms around his neck to hold on as she wiggled as close as possible. They were both slightly breathless when he lifted his head.

“I’m very glad you’re here. Hungry?” he asked, brushing the wisps of hair that escaped from her ponytail away.

“Starving.”

“Let’s get you fed.”

Her Daddy guided her further inside. A delicious aroma filled the air, making her tummy growl. She forced herself to ignore it and looked around. The house was beautifully decorated but comfortable. It wasn’t a stuffy place where you’d hate to sit down in case you wrinkled the couch. She could see all the way from the front door to the back of the house, now shrouded in growing darkness. That has to be a freaking amazing view.

Past the living room was a huge open kitchen with a big oak table and tall chairs drawn up to the counter. A smaller casual area filled the space in front of the windows. There, Jordi could imagine curling up against her Daddy on the cushy leather sectional and propping up her feet to watch a movie.

“You have a beautiful home, Daddy.”

“It’s missing one very important component,” he told her with a serious expression.

“What? You could put in a window seat in that other room to watch the sunset without the mosquitos. I like that swing myself,” she said quickly.
