My boyfriend merely whistles.
“Holy shit, I didn’t know Club Z girls could be like that,” he remarks. But then Sam brightens. “Well, do you want to name the baby Ramona then? It’s a solid name, and I am grateful for everything she did for us.”
I smile at the idea, but shake my head.
“No, no. I was actually thinking Griselda for my old nanny. What do you think? We could call our daughter Grizzie for short.”
Sam looks taken aback.
“Grizzie, like a grizzly bear?”
“Yeah,” I smile. “Exactly like that.”
Sam mulls over the idea as he looks down at the baby once more, but then he grins. “Griselda it is then,” he states. “Our little Grizzie.”
We both fawn over our daughter then, and I swear she’s even cuter than she was before.
“Hey Grizzie,” I say in a soft voice. “Mommy and Daddy love you.”
Sam reaches forward to stroke the baby’s head, but then he flips his wrist and there’s a small velvet box in his palm.
“Actually, speaking of which, I think there’s something Baby G wants to share with her mama,” he says. Then, Sam gets down on one knee and pops open the box to reveal a diamond ring.
“Sam,” I breathe as my heart pounds. The gem sparkles brilliantly beneath the overhead fluorescents, and the band itself is a glimmery silver-gold color. “Are you…?”
He nods.
“Some folks opt for a push present, but I think I want something more meaningful.” Then he takes a deep breath and begins. “This is the single happiest day of my life, sweetheart,” he says in a low, emotional tone. “You have made me a better man, a better person, and I know you’ll make me a better father too. You have given me the beautiful Griselda White, and nothing would make me happier than if you became Mrs. Samuel White.” With that, he proffers the ring, those blue eyes shining with emotion. “Will you marry me, Harlow?” he asks in a choked voice. “I love you, and you are my everything.”
I nod furiously even as tears make my vision blur.
“Yes! Yes, I’ll marry you!” I say with a hitch in my voice. “I’d love to become your wife, Sam.”
With that, the handsome doctor slips the ring onto my finger and then stands to press a kiss to my mouth. His lips are warm and full of promises to be kept, promises of forever. Not only that, but as our child mewls, I know that the rest of my life is only just beginning, and that it’s a life sure to be full of love, laughter, and perfect moments just like this.
