“Well…getting involved with Slate is kinda a mistake.”

He held my gaze, his eyes narrowing in interest. “In what way?”

“I really like him…really care about him. When I finally gave in and slept with him the first time, he cut me out of his life. He wouldn’t take my phone calls or acknowledge my existence. It hurt so much…and I knew it hurt because I’d become so attached to him. He’d become my best friend…the person I trusted most. And then he offered me more money to stay with him. I wanted to turn it down because I would only get sucked in further, but I couldn’t resist. Now I’ve fallen deeper for a man who won’t want me when this is all over. So that’s a big mistake, a mistake that will hurt for a long time.” I wasn’t sure why I’d bared my soul to Coen when I didn’t know him well. I saw a damaged individual who needed companionship, and being real with him seemed to heal us both.

“You love my brother.”

“I didn’t say that…”

“You don’t need to.”

I cut eye contact because I didn’t want to face the truth, not when his eyes looked identical to Slate’s. “He’s probably going to hurt me so much that I’ll never recover. But I’m still here…making it worse with every passing day. If you’re an idiot, so am I.”

He patted me on the thigh before he pulled his hand away. “You’ve been so good to me. Why is that?”

“Because you’re his brother. When I look at your face, I see him. It’s hard for me not to like you.”

“Even after what I did to him?” he whispered.

I thought it was wrong on so many levels, borderline unforgivable. But seeing him in this kind of pain erased my anger. “You’ve been punished enough, Coen.”

Slate and I didn’t talk until we were in his bedroom after dinner. The last time we’d spoken to each other in private, we were fighting about the apartment I wasn’t allowed to rent. It’d been tense ever since.

But it didn’t seem like Slate wanted to revisit the conversation. All he did was drop his clothes and get on top of me. Without a kiss or foreplay, he widened my legs and moved on top of me.

“Um, do you mind?” I pressed my palm against his chest.

“Does it look like I mind?” He licked his palm then wrapped it around his tip before he sank himself into my entrance.

“Maybe a kiss to start?”

“I don’t kiss when I’m pissed. I fuck when I’m pissed.” He shoved himself inside me with a harsh thrust, pushing between my tight walls and forcing me to open, like an apparatus at the gyno. He rammed me right off the bat, making me tap my head against the headboard.

I wanted to protest, but it’d been days since our last fuck, and I didn’t realize how much I’d missed it until he was inside of me. I’d been having an orgasm on a daily basis, and the moment that routine was disturbed, I became unhappy. “I think I like it when you’re pissed.”

He thrust with his arms pinned behind my knees, his cock sliding through the wetness my body secreted the second he was detected. His muscular body tightened and relaxed with his movements, and his large mass blocked out the light from the bathroom and closet because he was so large. He pinned my legs next to my chest and kept going. “I can tell, Cherry.”

I was sitting in my office when the hurricane hit.

Simone marched past the front desk with murder in her eyes. A folder was in her hand, but it may as well have been a gun with that furious expression. Jillian chased behind her. “You aren’t supposed to go back there!” She grabbed Simone by the wrist.

Simone was capable of anything, so I hopped out of my seat and moved through the door. “Jillian, it’s fine. Go back to your desk.” I had a gun in my desk drawer, so if Simone really wanted to take me out, she’d better have a quick draw.

Jillian looked relieved before she headed back to her desk.

I kept the door open for Simone, treating her like a lady even though she was the devil. “I thought you would turn up here eventually.”

She threw the folder down on my desk. “What the fuck is this? You fucking piece of shit.” She slammed her hand on my desk hard enough to make the solid piece of wood shake. Anger wasn’t a good color on her, not when it made the vein in her forehead protrude out like that and the spit fly from her mouth.

Couldn’t believe I ever fucked her. “Shouldn’t I be saying that to you?” I returned to my chair and kept my hands in my lap so she couldn’t see where they were. “It’s been two weeks since the wedding, and you’re already divorcing him? Already fucking someone else? I expected you to keep up the charade a little longer…but you obviously have no shame.”
