“What he said doesn’t matter. He’s a fucking pig.”

Isa winced. She could guess what Gary had said. There was one way to rile Loki up. Insult her. “It was about me, wasn’t it? He said something rude about me and you were defending me.”

“Is that right?” Remy asked in a low voice. “He said something about Isa?”

“Yeah,” Loki said with a scowl. “But I can handle fucking Gary. What I want to know is what you meant when you said you’d spank my girl? I am not going to let you harm her.”

“Remy wouldn’t hurt me, Loki. It was . . . I asked him to do it.” She could feel herself growing red. This was freaking embarrassing, but she had to tell Loki the truth.

“I asked him to spank me because I thought . . . I thought it might make me feel better.”

“Make you feel better?”

“About what I did . . . I feel guilty for not telling you the truth, Loki. It wasn’t that I was trying to lie to you or anything. I promise I didn’t mean to make you feel bad. I don’t want you to be angry at me.”

She could feel the tears forming again.

God. Stupid tears. Where did they keep coming from?

“I just thought . . . in those books I read a spanking wipes the slate clean. You know? You do something wrong, you’re punished and all is forgiven. But real life isn’t a book, right?”

“Some parts can be,” Remy told her. “A punishment can work that way. You break the rules, you’re punished, you’re forgiven and it’s forgotten. Maybe not forgotten. If it happens again, another punishment will be given that’s harder.”

“It never worked like that for me growing up. Whenever my dad would punish me, he’d still keep bringing up what I did over and over.”

“Your dad is a fucking asshole,” Loki said angrily. “He had no right to make you feel that way.”

“And we wouldn’t do that, would we, Loki?” Remy asked.

Loki stared at Remy in shock. In much the same way as she was doing.

“Never,” Loki swore. “I’d never treat Isa that way.”

“It wasn’t fair of me to ask Remy to punish me, though. When . . . when I wronged you.” She glanced up at Loki. “I’m sorry.”

“Tinkerbelle.” There was real pain in Loki’s face as he picked her up to wrap her in his arms. “Have you got glitter in your belly?”

“Uh-huh,” she said, snuggling into him. “Real bad.”

“You don’t need to. You and me . . . we’re always gonna be okay. Yeah?” He walked her over to the island, setting her down. Much as Remy had earlier.

He stared down at her. “I was a bit upset that you didn’t tell me everything, but I also get you were trying to protect me. However, it’s not your job to protect me. It’s the other way around. Got it? Don’t keep things from me again.”

She nodded. “I won’t.” She winced, remembering how she hadn’t been feeling that well lately. “There’s probably some other things I have to tell you. But can I not do it tonight?”

His eyes widened. “About that night?”

She shook her head.

He ground his teeth together, his jaw was clenched tight. “Are you in danger?”

“No, it’s just other stuff that you can’t help me with.”

“I don’t like it. I want to know now.”

“It’s just work stuff. But I’m up for a promotion soon so it will get better.”

Then she wouldn’t be under Shawn’s thumb. And she was certain she’d feel much better since she thought her tiredness and dizziness lately was down to being overworked and stressed.

“If it doesn’t get better, you will tell us more and we will fix it,” Remy told her.

“Promise us,” Loki added.

“Two weeks,” Remy told her. “If it’s not better, then we will sit down and talk about it.”

“I promise.” Whoa. The two of them working together was strange.

Loki looked over at Remy again. “Thanks for taking care of my girl.”

“You don’t need to thank me for that,” Remy replied, watching the other man carefully. “It’s my privilege.”

Loki let out a deep breath. “You’re a Dom.”

It was said more like a statement. Again, suspicion stirred that Loki had already looked into Remy. She glanced from one to the other.

“Yep,” Remy replied.

“Daddy Dom?”

“Yeah,” Remy said.

“That’s . . . that’s good,” Loki replied.

It was? So why did Loki look so upset?

Remy cleared his throat and they both looked up at him. It was so easy for him to command attention.

She was kind of jealous of that.

“I think we need to talk,” Remy said.

Wasn’t that what they were doing?

“You and I,” Remy clarified, pointing at himself, then Loki.

“What would we need to talk about?” Loki asked.

“Uncomplicating things.”

Remy watched as Isa’s eyes widened. But Loki just appeared confused.

He got it. Loki likely had no idea where he was going with this. Remy turned to Isa who was still sitting on the counter. “Maybe we should move Isa somewhere more comfortable.”
