“Oh, Daddy, you need more pictures.” Special princess pictures and fancy pictures and Daddy kinds of pictures. “Do you like dog pictures?”

Before he could decide if he liked dogs, another thought escaped. “I need a table for my projects, Daddy.”

It could go in the playroom or in the living room or in the grown-up bedroom—Daddy had lots of rooms.

He even had two bathrooms.

“Then I could come over to play a lot.” How much a lot was too much a lot? “Right?”

Daddy nodded, getting up from the table to come around by me. He even kissed my head as he crouched down beside my chair so I knew he was happy. “Yes, princess sunshine. All the time.”

“Because I like you coming over all the time, so you’d like me coming over all the time too?” As he smiled, I leaned over and kissed his cheek. “And we could have more sleepovers at your house once you have toys and fuzzy peoples and books and blankets.”

Daddy needed lots of things but I could help.

I was a great helper.

It was Daddy’s turn to kiss my cheek. “Lots of sleepovers anytime you want.”

“What…” The wiggles started as my tummy got tight but I was a strong princess and got the words out. “What if it’s lots of sleepovers because I’m sad or that other person isn’t nice? Some people aren’t nice, Daddy.”

They might be very not nice.

They might not have any imagination…or patience.

They might not even like princess dresses.

“You can always come over if you’re sad or lonely, princess sunshine.” He kissed my nose, making me smile even though my tummy wasn’t all the way happy again. “And if the other person isn’t nice, we can keep your pretty dresses and tiara at my house so you’d have to come all the time.”

Daddy wrapped his arms around me and kissed my cheek. “I like being with you, princess sunshine, and that’s not going to change even if you get so smart your head gets big.”

Giggling, I puffed up my cheeks, making Daddy laugh. “Yep, even if you get big-head smart.”

Daddy reached around and pushed on my cheeks with his fingers like he was popping a balloon. “We can make a schedule for what nights you always come over and we can get you a key so you can surprise me. I’ll make sure I have all your sauces and we can have nights where I come over to your place and make you dinner so the other person knows you have a big Daddy who’ll ground them if they’re not nice to you.”

Oh, Daddy was so smart.

“They’re not going to be a real big person yet like you, Daddy. They’re just going to be an almost real big person college student. That’s not the same. Yes, you ground them if they’re naughty.” Daddy was big and could frown very good when someone was naughty.

He’d even made the snotty waitress at the noodle restaurant behave by just raising one eyebrow.

Daddy magic.

He was a very good Daddy.

“I will do my best to make sure no one is naughty to you.” Daddy kissed my cheek again, looking very happy Daddy mushy. “But, princess sunshine, you said you were very honest when you were filling out the roommate survey. You might get an other person who needs a princess in their life to make them feel special.”

Hmm.

“I’d be very good at helping someone feel special.” I could be good at that. I was a very good princess. “Princesses have to help people. That’s the rules.”

“You’d be a very good helper.” Daddy kissed my head as he stood up, groaning like he was very old. “What was I thinking?”

“You’re so silly.” That made Daddy laugh, and he took my hands.

“Come on, princess, we’re going to get you a bath and then find some fun jammies and then figure out which toys are going to your new playroom.” Daddy sounded so confident I forgot to be worried.

Even my tummy was happy.

“The new playroom needs fuzzy peoples and games and my sparklies and puzzles. We can do puzzles while we watch Dragon again.” Daddy liked Dragon even though he got so growly.

Daddy snorted as he led me to the bathroom. “There’s only one season of that out so far and I’m not going to watch it over and over.”

His words said no but his face said yes.

“But Daddy…” I pouted and gave him my best sad princess look. “You like Dragon, you said he’s so cute.”

Yep, I was going to win and we were going to watch Dragon over and over.

“Not cute enough to watch a thousand times.” Daddy was still trying to sound very stern but I could see him weakening.

He was so silly.

“The first time is for fun. The second time is to learn.” I looked very serious as Daddy turned on the water and started adding bubbles. “See? You haven’t learned all about their world yet.”
