“Don’t be so uptight, Barone. I’m busting your chops. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have other matters to attend to.” He shakes Matteo’s hand, then Dario’s, next is my father’s, but I refuse to shake my romantic rival’s hand.

“We’ll walk you out,” Dario says, leading the Russian prick out of the office. I’m behind them all because I shouldn’t stand too close to the bastard or I’ll stab the fuck.

Right then, I see my wife in a pretty dress, looking too damn good. “Oh my God, you work for them,” my cupcake says.

“It’s good to see you again, Patricia.” Morozov’s voice is thicker when he says her name.

She gasps, and she presses her hand to her chest. “You’re Russian,” she utters.

“Da, princess, but I didn’t want you to run off when we met.” They know each other?

“It’s time you left, Morozov,” I snarl, moving closer, but the men block my way, afraid I’m going to attack him.

“Morozov,” she gasps again, tilting her head up at him, and I’m growing more jealous, but then I watch as she takes a step back.

He steps closer to my wife, giving her a charming smile. “Relax, Mrs. Barone. As I told you before, I had no interest in marrying you. I took you safely where you asked—nothing more. I would have helped you go where you needed if you had trusted me. If you need any assistance, you can always give me a call.” He hands her a card.

“She doesn’t need you.”

She steps up and smiles at him. “Thank you again, Sergei, but Gio’s right. I’m fine where I am.” He takes her hand and kisses the back of it.

“Yes, but it’s good to remind a man that what he has is precious.” He gives me a warning look and walks out. I stare back at my wife, and she blushes. I really do hate that motherfucker, even if I just realized that I owe him. He’s the fucker who got her out of the house and into my presence.

I rushed to her side after pushing past my family. I grab my handkerchief and wipe her hand. “He causes you to blush, and you fucking smile at him while you look at me with hate.”

She cocks her brow up at me and scoffs, “He isn’t an asshole to me.”

“She makes a good point,” Vivian says, walking into the room.

I ignore my sister because she enjoys the chaos. “You’re my wife.”

“Then maybe you should treat me like I mean something and not like I’m a prisoner of war. Then maybe a compliment from someone else won’t make me blush. Now, if you’ll excuse us, Vivian and I have some things to discuss.” She brushes right past me, and they walk away while I stand there, stupefied, because she’s fucking right.

“So that’s how she got out of the house. I wondered how she did it. Morozov helped her escape.”

“Yes, and he can hide his Russian accent easily because he fooled all those in the Moreno household,” Dario added. “He’s a slick fucker, but I heard rumors he’s got his eyes on another woman, so your bride has always been safe from him. I would have told you that, but you’re so fucking heated that you don’t listen.

“She likes him, though.”

“Take it from me, Godson. Don’t dwell on it. I made the same mistake with your godmother. It’s not like that. I thought she had feelings for Dario, here. I was wrong, and it nearly cost me everything. You have time.”

Matteo’s phone rings, and he puts it on speaker. “Conti, you have someone out here watching your grounds. I’ve seen him before. Think he’s a cop, but he’s not dressed for proper introductions.”

“Thanks, Morozov.”

“We have company. Get the women to safety now.” I’m off to find them, but they aren’t in the kitchen or the library.

Vivian has several trackers on her, something I haven’t had a chance to do with my cupcake, so I call Matteo. “Matteo, where are they?”

He’s quick to pull up his phone info and find her. “Fuck, Vivian snuck them out.”

“Where?” I growl, running outside and forgetting about the enemies waiting for us.

“They’re on the road, heading into town, and they’re moving pretty fast.”

“Who the fuck let them out of the gates? I’m going after them.” The staff know damn well they’re not to leave without any of us. Matteo’s not demanding, but it’s for safety precautions.

“Wait for me.”

“Hurry.” We all gather in the garage, calling our men to meet in different areas while we’re getting our weapons when I spot someone on surveillance. “We need a plan of action before we go out there,” my father says. Fuck, I look again, and it’s Sanchez and several of Moreno’s men. He doesn’t have many left, and yet he wants to play with us. Of course he’s sending all his young ones out and hiding away.
