His brow is furrowed as he smiles. “Okay? No argument? You’re willing to go look at stones?” He reaches over the side of the playpen and cups my breast, grazing my nipple.

My breath hitches. I wonder if he intends to do that often. Maybe so. Maybe I like it.

“It’s going to hurt,” I mutter, more to myself.

“Nope. You won’t feel a thing. I’ll numb your titties with my quill first. I can numb them again later in the day if they start to ache.”

“Oh.” Well that sounds much better. I hadn’t thought of that. I drop the little teacup I’ve been holding and reach my arms up for Papi to pick me up.

He swoops down and lifts me.

I wrap my legs around his waist and hold his face with my small hands. “I’m still scared,” I admit.

He rubs my back. “I know you are, Baby girl, but I’ll be right beside you the entire time. I’ll strap you down and hold your precious titty in my grip while Ekert pierces it.”

I shudder and squeeze my legs at his waist at the same time. Every time he restrains me, I get aroused. Every time he even mentions restraining me, I get aroused.

“Before we go to Ekert’s, I want to take you into the furniture store.” He looks serious. I’m not sure why.

I know Papi works some during the day when I nap, but the door that leads from his house to the attached business has never been opened when I’ve been in the living room. “Okay.”

He doesn’t immediately move though. He strokes my hair. “The shop is technically Strogan’s, but we have an arrangement. I own a lumber company and supply him with the materials he needs to make furniture.”

I nod. I’ve pieced this together in the time I’ve been here.

Papi keeps talking. “Strogan and I went to Earth at the same time, but he found his Little girl and returned two weeks before I claimed you.”

I cup his face, wondering why he’s being so oddly serious right now. These are just facts. I’ve been aware of these details.

Papi draws in a breath. “Strogan’s Little girl is named Christine. She prefers Chrissy.”

“That’s a pretty name.” I don’t know what else to say.

He smiles.

“What’s wrong, Papi?” I prod. I set my forehead against his. I love being this close to him. I don’t even mind so much that my breasts are pressed against his chest because sometimes I have the oddest craving that I want more contact.

Now that he’s been inside me, that desire has increased. I want all of me to touch all of him. All the time. I slept hard, but ever since he put me in the playpen after my nap, I’ve been fidgety as if something was missing from my life.

It’s this. The contact. I wish he could hold me in his arms always.

“Strogan’s been anxious for Chrissy to meet you. He’s started joking that I’ve lied and don’t even have a Little girl next door.”

I giggle. “Then let’s show him.”

“We will.” He doesn’t move.

“Papi?”

He swallows. “I admit I’m nervous.”

“Nervous about what?”

“Nervous about you and Chrissy meeting. It will be very awkward if the two of you don’t like each other and aren’t friendly. Strogan and I work together. He’s a great friend. I’ve dreamed of a day when our Little girls might also be friends. More than friends. More like sisters.”

“Are you afraid I won’t like her?”

He smirks.

My eyes widen. “You’re afraid I won’t be nice to her. You’re afraid she won’t like me.” I’m stunned, but then I realize it’s a reasonable assumption. I’ve been surly and naughty since I arrived. High-maintenance. I haven’t spoken until today, and I was borderline rude to Julia and Sophie at the clinic.

Papi strokes my hair. He looks like he has more to say, but he holds his tongue.

“I’ll be good, Papi. I’ll be kind and friendly. I promise.” The words burn in my throat.

“If someone had asked me this morning if I thought you were ready to meet people, I would have said no. But you’ve come out of your shell today. Shed some of your anger. If you’re not ready though…”

I shake my head. “I don’t want to be naughty anymore. It’s boring. I want to meet Chrissy.” I know this is important. Not just to him but for me. I will need friends in this new world, and it sounds like I’ll be spending a lot of time with Chrissy. It would be convenient if we liked each other.

He smiles. “Are you sure?”

I nod. “Just one thing. Will you fix my hair first? Every Little girl we’ve seen had pretty pigtails or braids. I bet mine is weird looking. Half blond on the bottom and half brown on the top.”

“I would be honored to fix your hair, Baby girl.” He carries me into the kitchen and surprises me by lowering me into the highchair. I haven’t sat here before. He doesn’t feed me solid foods yet.
