“Told you it would backfire.”
“Gian.”
“Don’t worry, baby.” He leans down again and flicks his tongue a few times, lapping at me. “I’d never leave you wanting.”
I groan as he sinks his fingers in and out again, tongue fully engaged, and I run my fingers through his hair. I can’t take it for long, and soon the pleasure’s way too much.
I come against his mouth. He eats me up, lapping me the whole time, growling like a beast. “Oh, god damn it,” I moan, head thrown back, sucking down air. I sit up on an elbow as I finish and he pulls back, looking very satisfied with himself.
“That’s better,” he says, licking his fingers clean and staring at me. “God, you’re beautiful. Seriously, Allegra. You’re gorgeous.”
“Thanks.” I blush a little, feeling lightheaded and happy. I let out a real yawn this time. “Now you’ve done your duty and I’m ready for bed.”
“Finished with me that quick? I should feel used.”
“Good. Feel it.” I grin and let my eyelids flutter. “Do you mind?”
“I’m not sure.” He leans forward, pressing my shirt up. I laugh as he licks my nipples, which sends another pang into my core. “No, you know what, I don’t think I mind at all.”
“Down, boy.” I push him away and yank my shirt, covering my breasts. “I’m exhausted and you’ve performed your husbandly duties quite well.”
“I really did.” He sighs and lies on his back. His erection still strains the sheets. “Go ahead. Go to sleep.”
“What are you going to do?”
“I’ll probably stroke myself off and stare at your unconscious body.”
“Don’t wake me up, please.” I grin at him, snuggling into the covers. “And don’t make a mess.”
He laughs quietly and we lapse into silence.
My first night in bed with my husband, and that happened.
It doesn’t bode well for the rest of our marriage.
But I’m finally relaxed enough that my breathing steadies, and slowly, the room drifts away.
Chapter 20
Gian
I’m up early frying sausages and eggs in the kitchen after a very long shower. I really wasn’t kidding—after last night, I had to get myself off just to make sure I didn’t drag her over to my side of the bed and do something that we both might regret. But that wasn’t exactly hard. I closed my eyes, let the hot water roll down my back, and thought of Allegra’s hard nipples, her pants and moans, the taste of her orgasm on my tongue.
There’s a knock and the front door opens. I look over as Saul walks into the room, frowning around him at the walls. I don’t move for a second, surprised to see him, and his eyes fall on mine.
“I come in peace,” he says, but he’s not smiling. “I don’t plan on hitting you this time, at least.”
“Breakfast? Coffee?”
“Coffee.” He makes a face. “You still eat a lot in the morning?”
“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.”
“I don’t think that’s actually true. But just coffee for me.”
I pour him a cup. He gives himself a tour of the downstairs while I plate the food and shovel some down. “What do you think?” I ask when he comes back.
“Not bad. Good bones. And close to your wife’s house.” His face darkens at the last bit. “Where is she?”
“Sleeping upstairs.”
“Then let’s talk out back. Wouldn’t want to wake your new bride.”
I grunt in reply, set my plate aside, and lead him onto the porch. The yard’s a little overgrown—I haven’t had time to keep it up—but I’ll hire people to fix that soon. We sit in a pair of metal chairs the last owners left behind, our drinks steaming in the cool morning air.
“What are you doing here, Saul?”
“We should talk.”
“Yeah? Did Renzo put you up to this?”
He grimaces, which confirms it. “Even if he did, he’s right.”
“What’s there to say? I shouldn’t have married Allegra, but I did it anyway. I gave you my Vegas business to make up for it. You’ll be richer than me in a few years and the Famiglia will keep on earning its cut. Renzo gets his alliance. Everyone wins.”
“Everyone wins,” Saul echoes, not looking at me. “Except you.”
I grunt and sip my coffee. I know what he’s about to ask. It’s the same thing Allegra keeps asking, and it’s the same question I keep asking myself.
“Go ahead. Spit it out.”
He shakes his head slowly. “You really never got over her, did you?”
I’m surprised by that. “I don’t know what you mean.”
“After that shit in college, you ran off to Vegas to get away from her. I thought you would’ve moved on in ten years, but you really haven’t.”
“I’m fine. I’m over it.”
“You’re a fucking liar. Why did you care so much that I was going to marry her, and why did you risk so much to take her for yourself? And how the hell did you convince her to do it?”
