He zeroed in on her as she approached, his gaze dropping to the cleavage she’d exposed, then to the deliberate sway of her hips, before bouncing back up to her face, a scowl marring his brows.

Reaching for a glass of water, he handed it to her. “Drink this so you stay hydrated. It will help dilute the alcohol in your system.”

She gave him a slow, languid blink and took the glass from his hands. “Yes, sir,” she murmured, almost laughing as she watched his eyes go dark and hot.

She drank about half the water, set the glass back on the bar top, then intentionally leaned against the front of his body as if she couldn’t stand straight on her own. He caught her around the waist, and she toyed with the collar of his shirt as she tipped her head up to meet his gaze.

“I’m ready for you to take me home . . . sir,” she said, infusing a husky quality to her voice.

The clench of his jaw told her that he didn’t miss the innuendo in her words, but he kept himself under control and began escorting her through the crowd. “Let’s go.”

“Wait, aren’t we taking Maddie and Avery with us?” she asked.

“No.” He shook his head and kept directing her toward the exit. “I already asked Asher to drop them off when he and Nikki leave.”

Which meant she now had Derek all to herself, she thought happily.

She tried to slow him down, just to make things a little more difficult on him. “Why are you in such a rush to get me out of here?”

He tightened his arm around her waist and pulled her closer to his side as he navigated through another cluster of people. “Because I think you’ve had more than enough to drink, and way too much fun, and it’s time to call it a night.”

She pouted up at him. “What if I’m not done having fun?”

“Trust me, you’ll thank me in the morning for not letting you overindulge any more than you already have.”

She sighed, purposely sounding displeased with his decision but relenting. “All right. Whatever you say.”

He blew out a breath, obviously relieved she wasn’t going to give him a hard time, and she behaved herself until they were in his SUV, buckled up, and driving toward her home. Once she’d lulled him into a false sense of security, making him believe she was going to be good, she leaned across the console—as much as she could with her seat belt on—and playfully walked her fingers up his thigh while pressing her breasts against his arm.

Lips near his ear, she murmured, “So, I was thinking about the boyfriend thing you mentioned . . . does that come with benefits?”

His body stiffened at her insinuation, and before she could skim her fingers along the front of his pants, he pushed her hand back down to his knee. “No. Not tonight,” he said gruffly.

She found his choice of words interesting. “Too bad. I could really, really use the benefits part of having a boyfriend.” She exhaled a sigh of disappointment that ruffled the hair by his ear and trailed her fingers right back up his leg again. “I know your cock doesn’t vibrate like my battery-operated boyfriend does, but from what I’ve felt, a few times now, you would more than get the job done,” she said and palmed his erection, giving it an experimental squeeze.

A low groan rumbled in his throat, and his hands tightened on the steering wheel.

She stroked him lazily through the fabric of his slacks.

“Jessica.” Her name came out as a stern warning.

“Hmmm?” she asked innocently.

“I’m driving,” he said through gritted teeth.

She swallowed back a laugh. “And doing a damn good job of it,” she said, her words slow and languid.

She traced a finger around what felt like the very large head of his cock. At the feel of him, big and thick, desire rushed through her, and she squeezed her thighs together, searching for relief but realizing her mistake when another wave of need raced through her.

Forcing her focus back to him, she squeezed once more. “Don’t mind me. I’m just sizing things up.”

“Fuck,” he growled and pulled her hand off his erection. This time, he trapped her palm beneath his thigh, assuring she couldn’t touch him again. “You’re going to cause us to get into a fucking accident.”

“Hmm, then maybe you need to work on your self-control.”

He turned his head and gaped at her, and she blinked at him guilelessly. She had to admit that being “pretend drunk” was fun. It allowed her to be far more shameless and brazen than she’d ever allowed herself to be before, and she found it liberating to be playful and openly sexual with a man. But he was right, she needed to be more careful about touching him while he was driving.
