Jamie stifled a laugh, and I’ll admit it infuriated me just a little bit. “I’ve never seen you like this. It’s cute.”
I just glared at him.
“Are you sure you have the money for this?”
“What do you think?” I asked, still glaring.
“All right, I’m in. Just to defend your honor, I will accept a car that costs four times what most people make in a year. What else can I do to help? Act stuck-up?”
His playfulness finally coaxed a smile to my face. “He wants me, you know. He’s been raping me with his beady little eyes ever since we got here. Don’t you wanna do something about that?”
“Maybe.” His wicked smile had me thinking maybe I was in for a treat. And when the salesman returned, Jamie did not disappoint.
He stood directly in front of me, wrapped his arms around my waist, and plastered his body to mine. The pose was aggressively intimate, and I loved it. “Sir, before we pay for this thing, we were wondering one more thing.”
“What’s that?” The man frowned, clearly annoyed at our public display of affection, but Jamie wasn’t finished yet. Not by a long shot. In addition to being downright gorgeous, my man can seduce like a pro without even trying. It just comes naturally for him, and most of the time he doesn’t even notice the effect he has on people. I’ve seen it enough to know. In the case of the obnoxious car salesman, I predicted Jamie was going to poke out that suckable bottom lip and turn on the sweet little twink routine that I was convinced could inspire dirty thoughts in any red blooded man’s head, gay or straight. He did that and so much more.
He flashed that head-down, eyes-up puppy dog pout that always got him whatever he wanted. “Could you show us one more time how the back seats lie down? We’re not sure if everything is going to fit back there.”
The man opened the back of the SUV and demonstrated. When the seats had retracted into the floor, Jamie crawled up into the back on his hands and knees. I climbed in after him, sensing exactly where this was going and loving it. Jamie turned onto his back, and without needing a prompt, I nudged my body up between his legs.
“Oh, yeah,” he said, his voice far too suggestive for a business transaction. He twined them around my waist and hooked his ankles together, taking things a little too far when he rubbed his crotch against my barely contained dick. “Oh, yeah,” he groaned. “God, yes, that’s a perfect fit. What do you think, baby?”
“I think I should have worn underwear,” I said where only he could hear, reaching down to adjust myself. Then I called over my shoulder to the salesman. “We’ll take it.”
After that, the salesman couldn’t get us off of the lot fast enough. They gave us a few bucks for Jamie’s beat-up car, and I called my banker in Vegas and had him handle the details. All told, the process took less than two hours, and I drove away feeling I’d been vindicated.
Jamie asked me to drive, since he wasn’t familiar with driving such a large vehicle. “I’d be fine on the interstate, but I need a little practice with it before I try to battle Atlanta traffic.” I didn’t bother telling him I’d never driven an SUV, either. Not to mention it would be my first time in Atlanta traffic. It gave me a sense of pride to know that he considered me capable enough to handle the things he couldn’t, and I wasn’t about to blow his image of me. I’d succeed or die trying.
He was quiet for a while as I familiarized myself with the flow of traffic. Then he tensed and spun in his seat. “What if someone back there recognized you? After that thing we did in the back with the seats? God, I’m such an idiot.”
“It’ll be fine,” I told him.
“But he could have known who you were all along. Or someone else there might have known. What if they—”
“I’m tired of what if. Just tell me how to get to the school.” Weariness crept into my voice, because I really did not want to have this conversation anymore.
Jamie brightened. “You were serious about visiting the campus? I thought you were just making excuses to get out of the condo.”
“No, I was being honest. You should try it sometime.” And there it was again. If I didn’t want to have the conversation, why did I keep bringing it up?
He whipped his head around and fixed me with a wounded-dog look. “I’m honest.”
“With your friends?”
“It’s complicated.” He stared out the window. “And the secrecy is more for you than me. I’ve told you that a million times.”
“How selfless of you. I must have gotten the wrong idea. Maybe because just a little while ago, you were frotting with me in front of a car salesman who might very well have recognized me. Where was the concern then? I realize that you are legitimately worried about what might happen to me if the media found out about us. But can you admit that at least some of it has nothing to do with my career?”
