They soon arrived at the creek and he set up the blanket. “There you go, have a seat and I’ll get the food out.” He tapped her nose. “Got to feed my baby.”

She smiled up at him. “Can I take the hat, scarf, and gloves off, Daddy?”

He nodded. “All right. But if you get cold, they’re going back on.”

He drew out some containers of food. Potato salad, leftover roast chicken, and some soft buns. Then he pulled out a pink plate and spooned some food onto it, before placing it and a fork in front of her. “There you go, baby.”

She looked at the mound of food in dismay. “Ahh, Daddy, are you sure this isn’t your plate?”

He snorted. “Daddy doesn’t eat off a pink plate.”

“Why not? Pink’s a great color. Are you prejudiced against pink, Daddy?”

“Nope, I happen to love the color pink. On my little girl. But Daddy needs a big plate and an adult sized fork for all the food he eats.”

Sure enough, his plate and fork were much larger than hers. So was his huge pile of food. He also pulled out a carton of juice and poured some into a cup for her then attached a lid.

“A sippy cup?” She stared at the object as though she thought it might bite her.

“Yes, little darling. A sippy cup. Drink up.”

She wrinkled her nose and picked it up but didn’t take a drink.

“Do you need some help? You do know how a sippy cup works, right?”

She rolled her eyes. “Well, duh.”

He just gave her a stern look. “Watch your tone.”

“Sorry, Daddy,” she said sincerely. She sighed. Looked like she was going to have to drink out of this thing. She was thirsty. She tipped up the cup and took a few sips. Huh. That wasn’t bad at all.

“Good girl. Now eat your food and then we’ll do some fishing.”

She wrinkled her nose. “I don’t wanna fish, Daddy.”

“Well, I’ll fish and you can watch.”

“Okay. So long as I don’t have to dig for worms or touch any icky fish.”

He grinned. “I’m pretty sure it’s in a daddy’s job description to have to deal with all icky stuff.”

She ate as much as she could manage, which was more than she thought she would and not nearly as much as he tried to coax into her. But he finally packed everything away and picked up the fishing rod, getting it ready. He tried to explain it all to her, but she wasn’t the slightest bit interested in trying to catch some poor fish.

He flung the line out. “If I’m successful we’ll be eating fresh fish for dinner.”

She thought the odds of that happening were doubtful, but she didn’t say that to him.

“Look, here we go.” He tugged at the line which was taut, reeling it in. “Feels like a big one, little darling. We’ll be eating like kings tonight.”

He gave a yank and he’d caught something all right… but it definitely was not a fish. She started giggling. “Not sure that’s going to taste so good for dinner tonight, Daddy.”

He smiled good-naturedly. “I think you’re right.” He reeled in his find, then held it up.

“Are these pajama pants?” He stared at the yellow pajama pants in disbelief while she erupted into more laughter. “How the hell would someone’s pajama bottoms get into the creek? There aren’t any other cabins around for miles.”

“I don’t know, Daddy. But I think it’s a rule that if you catch them you’ve got to wear them. You certainly can’t throw them back.”

“Brat.” He shook his head and stalked towards her. The pajama pants were dropped to the ground as he chased her around the small clearing. He finally caught her, which he probably could have done straight away, but then where would the fun have been in that?

“Come on, baby.”

She glanced up from her coloring book to see Clint standing in front of her, a huge blanket held in his hand. He crooked a finger at her.

“What are we doing, Daddy?” she asked curiously as she stood up. This was their second night in the cabin and she was loving her time here. It was so easy to slip into Little space. Although sometimes having Daddy’s full attention didn’t work in her favor, her poor bottom was still throbbing from the spanking he’d given her earlier for playing with her toys instead of napping.

“We’re going to go watch the sunset.” He wrapped her in the blanket then picked her up, cradling her against his chest. He maneuvered them outside and then he sat on the porch swing side-on, so one leg was stretched out along the back of the seat and one leg rested off the swing, his foot on the ground. He settled her between his legs, the blanket lying over both of them, her back to his chest. She rested her head against him as he set the swing in motion.
