I burst into laughter. I don’t have a problem with Bishop’s house. Could it use a woman’s touch? Absolutely, but it’s not so terrible that I want to change everything right away.

I haven’t decided what I intend to change, if anything, as of yet. I don’t want to come in changing everything even though Bishop has said that I can.

“I’m still thinking about it,” I say.

“Please do let me know when you’re ready, I have a great designer I think you will love.”

“I’ll be sure to let you know.”

“Are you looking for something in particular?” Tessa asks as I stop in front of the jewelry cases.

I freeze, not knowing how much she knows about Bishop’s ex and their relationship. This has been on my mind for a while. Each time I see him reach for the necklace he no longer wears, I can’t help but think of the anchor it’s become in his life.

“Um, well, Bishop had this necklace. He took it off during the tour, but I get the feeling he misses it. I want to see if I can replace it with something that gives him happy thoughts,” I say.

I know he’s not missing his ex. I get that it was familiar. He created the habit of wearing it. I want to give him new memories to hold on to with something from me.

“Ah, the guitar pick. I did notice he hasn’t been wearing it.”

She tilts her head to study me. I can’t help wondering what she’s thinking. I try not to nervously fidget under her watchful gaze.

“I think I see for myself why Bishop fell for you,” she finally says with a wide grin on her face.

I return the smile and then look down at the jewelry, not knowing what to say to that. A clerk comes over to help us right as my gaze lands on the perfect pendant. My face lights up and I point to it.

“I’d like that one, the music note,” I breathe.

“Oh, that’s perfect. He’s going to love it,” Tessa gushes.

The clerk pulls the pendant from the case for me to take a look at it. The clef note has a microphone running through it and the bottom has a heart dangling from it on its own tiny chain.

“I’ll take it and a chain for it, please,” I say.

“Would you like it gift-wrapped?”

“Yes, please. Thank you.”

“I’ll be honest with you. I was happy to see that necklace gone. I had hoped it meant he was healing from the past. I mean, he’s with you now. I had hoped he wouldn’t allow the past to haunt his present.

“I could hear a change in him, but seeing it gone gave me hope. This gift is a good thing. You are good for him. I have all faith in Bishop and his ability to win your family over,” Tessa says.

I blink to hold back the tears. I’m so over crying. However, I can’t deny how much it hurts that it’s my family causing all the tension.

“Come, let’s get some lunch and then we can resume shopping. There’s a lovely place around here I like to do brunch at. Their mimosas are to die for,” Tessa says as I’m too emotional to speak.

“That sounds nice,” I manage to choke out.

The clerk returns with my purchase. After, we head out to lunch. I’ll admit, my time with Tessa does lift my spirits. I’m going to love having her as a mother-in-law.

CHAPTER 38

Iknow You

Bishop

I look down at my watch after rolling the sleeves of my dress shirt up over my elbows. I blow out a breath and roll my shoulders back. Looking down at my black slacks, I chide myself for not wearing a full suit.

It’s too late to change now. We need to go. If only my wife would come on already.

“Saga, baby, let’s go,” I call through the house as I pace at the foot of the stairs, waiting for her to come down.

I’m learning my wife takes way too much time getting ready. I don’t complain because she always looks great when she’s done, but tonight is different because I’m nervous about this date and I want to get there on time.

“This has to go perfectly,” I mutter to myself.

I feel like I’ve been neglecting her to get this album done. Everything is going as planned as far as my in-laws go, but now I need to turn my attention to my wife. Saga hasn’t been in the studio for the recording of the album much.

The label doesn’t want us sharing on social media. They’re planning a documentary and have their own crew who has been coming to record for that. It’s given Saga time to settle into her new home, but I don’t get to spend as much time with her as I would like.
