"Another one bites the dust,” Presley jokes, getting up and grabbing her cup. "This was fun. I'm still pissed at you, but I will let you know that I called Mom and complained about it, so you should be getting a phone call from her any minute."

I groan. “Thanks." I flip her off as she walks out of the room with Shelby right behind her. It's one thing to go face-to-face with my sisters; it's a whole other ball game to go face-to-face with my mother. "I hate you!” I scream at the door, and then I pick up my phone and FaceTime my mother, biting the bullet.

"So she's alive." That’s the first thing she says when her face fills the screen after one ring, and all I can do is roll my eyes.

"And we wonder where we get our dramatics from," I say, turning in my chair and looking outside at the sun shining into the office on the flowers. Then looking back at her as she picks up a cup of coffee.

"You get that from your father." She points at the screen and then goes quiet. “Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," I assure her, and she just laughs at me, clapping her hands.

"You are one hundred percent most definitely not fine," she huffs. “And it's okay not to be fine, Clarabella."

"Okay, I'm not fine fine," I admit to her. “But I'm not like ‘woe is me’ not fine."

"Interesting," she says, and I can see her tapping her finger on the table. “Does this have to do with Luke?"

"Probably." I look at her. “I was so pissed that he just told everyone my business."

"Hold on one minute." She puts her hand up. “Edward came at you in public and tried to humiliate you by turning the tables on you." Her voice goes louder. “And you got mad at Luke?"

"I didn't see it at first," I huff. “But I did when we spoke about it."

"Good." She nods her head. “When are you bringing him to meet me?"

I laugh. “No idea."

"Clarabella Baker, I will show up at his restaurant on Friday to meet him with or without you," she warns. “I'd rather it be with you."

"So when you said when are you bringing him to meet you, what you forgot to say is you have until Friday." I look at her, and she shrugs.

"You take it the way you want to." She smiles at me, and I fill her in about Edward, something that I didn't tell my sisters. "You are lucky I wasn't there." She leans back in her chair. “Those mofos." I can't help but laugh out loud at her slang, and the phone shows me that Luke is calling.

"Mom, I have to call you back,” I say, and she just hangs up on me. “Hello," I answer the phone, not bothering to hide my smile.

"Hey," he greets softly. “Are you busy for lunch?"

"No," I say right away, and even if I was, I would make time, which is crazy. Since I would never have before.

"Good, I'll pick you up at eleven," he states, and I laugh. "Also, it might be safe to say you might not go back to work this afternoon."

"Is that a fact?" I can't help but shake my head and look over at my schedule in front of me, seeing that I'm free. "Well, considering I'm your woman and all."

"I see you know your role," he says, laughing. “Pick you up at eleven." He doesn't even give me a chance to answer him. He just hangs up.

"What the fuck?” I say to myself, looking down at the phone.

"That must be part of being his woman." Presley's voice comes on the intercom, and all I can do is laugh.

"I guess so," I mumble to myself as I try to keep busy until eleven.

Chapter 30

Luke

I slam the truck door and walk up the front steps to her office. I don't think I've ever gone in through here, and as soon as I walk in, I put my sunglasses on the top of my head. I look around the room and see Presley sitting down at the front desk. "Hi," I say to her. She smiles, picks up the phone, and I hear her voice come out on the speaker.

"Luke is here to pick up his woman," she says, smirking at me, and I shake my head.

"I guess you heard about that." I put my hands on my hips.

"Oh, did we." She leans back in the chair. “We even googled what does being his woman mean."

I nod my head at her. “And?"

"There were a couple of things," she says, trying not to laugh. “One said that you wanted to be the only man in her life, and the other—"

"Said something about a tiara and a sash,” Shelby says, coming into the room now, trying to hide her smile.
