“Um…sorry. You don’t know me, but Kenzo… Well, he’s passed out in my living room.”

“Give me your address,” the voice orders.

I rattle off my address and hope I didn’t just give my address to a damn serial killer. Then I laugh. Because I have one in my apartment right now, so what’s another going to do? Standing, I head to the kitchen and grab two towels. I throw one over his arm without looking so I can’t see the blood, then lift his head slightly to keep it off the floor.

“Kenzo.” I brush his hair from his face and notice how peaceful he looks when he sleeps. I want to check over his body to ensure he’s okay, but I’m afraid if I do, I’ll just pass out again and won’t be able to answer the door. “Can you hear me?” I caress his jaw as a knock comes on the door, making me jump.

Shit, that was fast.

I gently lay Kenzo’s head back down, then pull open the door to a man who looks a lot like Kenzo but meaner and a little older. And I know who it is right away. He eyes me before he spots his brother on the floor behind me.

“Hi, I’m Mayve.” I offer him my hand, but he pushes past me and walks in without a word.

“Ignore him, he’s rude.”

I didn’t notice the woman when I opened the door. She peers inside at Kenzo and then looks back at me. “Hey, cool eyes.” She smiles. No one has said that to me before. I offer her a small smile before I turn to Kenzo.

“Is he okay?” I ask and get no answer.

“Zuko,” the woman at the door growls.

“He’s been stabbed a few times,” he says.

“Shit.” She hurries to his side. “Do you have any bandages or anything?” she asks me.

I nod and run to my bathroom. Under the sink, I find the first aid kit hiding at the back. Hurrying back out, I hand it to Zuko. He takes it, and then begins to lift Kenzo’s shirt.

Uh-uh, no way!

I look away quickly.

“Don’t like blood?” the woman asks.

“No. I…um… I faint.”

“Oh, okay. I’ll tell you when it’s safe,” she states. “Did you hear that? She hates blood, and yet here he is.”

“Mmm…” is all Zuko replies.

“This is going to be so good,” she whispers.

I don’t know what she’s referring to, but I doubt any of it will be good. I stay where I am with my back to them as they do whatever they do.

“Put on some fucking pants.” I swing around to find Kenzo looking up at me.

“You’re okay?” I question.

“You won’t be soon,” he grumbles when his gaze falls to my legs. Zuko doesn’t even look up from what he’s doing to Kenzo’s stomach. All I see is a needle and thread, and that’s enough for me to know not to stare.

“We haven’t met. I’m Alaska. I currently hold the title for having the grumpiest boyfriend.”

“I’m not your boyfriend,” Zuko mutters.

“Yes, you are, darling,” she coos, and he shakes his head at her. “You are my plaything, my boo bear, my—”

“Shut up, Trouble,” he grumbles, and she just smirks at his nickname for her.

“Pants,” Kenzo says.

Not wanting him to also have a coronary, I run to the bedroom and change quickly. When I come out, he’s half sitting up, and his brother stands above him.

“Did you kill them?” Zuko asks.

“Yes,” Kenzo replies.

“But they jumped you from behind. What had you so fucking distracted?”

“Instagram,” he mumbles, and my hands fly to my face.

All sets of eyes lock on me.

I stay still, unsure of what to say or do.

“I’m off. Don’t move for the day. And fucking heal before I put you in the ground myself,” Zuko orders.

“Fuck off before I give you a fucking bullet,” Kenzo says back to him as Zuko strides out the door.

“Toodles. It was nice to meet you.” Alaska waves and looks to Kenzo. “Be nice.” She kicks his foot, then walks out after Zuko, who waits for her outside the door.

“Instagram?” I ask Kenzo. When he doesn’t reply, I say, “You deleted my accounts.” I pick up his phone and notice that the screen saver is of my legs. I drop it. How did I not see that before?

“I did,” he states proudly.

“If you weren’t injured right now, I would kick you where it hurts,” I say, crossing my arms over my chest. “Now, get up and get to bed.”

Twenty

Kenzo

The minute she created those accounts, I was notified. I may have put an alert on all things with her name. So when that popped up, and I saw what she posted…

Gone.

No one else is allowed to see those fucking legs.

Those legs, which would look magnificent wrapped around me.

She grumbles something as she passes me on the way to the bathroom. She slams the door shut as I stand there, my side on fucking fire. The fact I let those assholes get the better of me makes me fucking furious. I’m lethal right now and thinking about those legs only worsens matters. And the fact that I didn’t get to torture information out of those assholes makes me homicidal.
