I couldn’t answer any questions with a full mouth because that was bad manners and everyone knew it.

Oh, now they were both looking at me.

How did they do that?

How did Uncle Cohen know what Daddy wanted to ask?

Doms were magic.

Shoot. I was almost out of bacon…pancake time.

“How about you wait just a minute to see if your tummy needs any more food?” Daddy was looking at my almost empty plate like it was scary. “Just a minute, and if you’re a good boy, I’ll stop fighting Uncle Cohen about the coffee.”

Oh, coffee.

Oh, I had to answer questions to get coffee…that was hard.

Taking a sip of my milk gave me time to think, but that was hard too.

“With chocolate?” I might answer questions for coffee with lots of chocolate.

“Yes.” Uncle Cohen stood up before Daddy could even finish rolling his eyes. “I’ll go make it.”

Yay.

Maybe.

I eyed the pancakes again, but Daddy saw me and shook his head. “That wasn’t the deal. You have to wait a minute.”

How long was a minute?

Did I have to count?

Sadly, Daddy was fast and got his question out before I could ask. “Did you like…Did you like our game last night?”

My feet started wiggling, but I looked over at Uncle Cohen and saw he was getting out hot chocolate powder and the squirty chocolate that went on ice cream. “Yes, I liked the game.”

Games were fun.

And we couldn’t get embarrassed by games…games were supposed to be silly.

“I was very good.” Just in case he forgot or somehow thought I’d been naughty. Nope, no naughties here. “You said so.”

At some point someone had.

Maybe me?

Daddy just nodded, so I must’ve guessed right. “You were very good, but I wanted to make sure nothing about the game made you…nervous.”

Shaking my head, I rocked my feet back and forth. “Nope. I was careful when I drove. I talked to Uncle Cohen and he made me not worried. I played the game and I listened to the rules.”

No naughties here.

We weren’t going to talk about finishing the game too early.

“And then we cuddled and you said I’d been good and we had dinner.” No point in reminding him about the pancakes, so I didn’t say that part. “And then we got all clean and made Uncle Cohen happy and I had a sleepover.”

No naughties here and no worries here.

At least not many.

Peeking over at Daddy, my feet started squirming again. “Did you like the game?”

Had Daddy not had fun?

Before Daddy could answer, though, Uncle Cohen made my coffee magically appear. “Oh, that looks yummy. Thank you, Uncle Cohen.”

As he set my mug down, he blew on it to cool it off and knelt down beside me. “Cutie?”

Looking away from my chocolaty treat and over to Uncle Cohen, I smiled and hoped he wasn’t worried about our game too. “Yes?”

“Your Daddy and I both had lots of fun playing with you.” He was very serious and even nodded. “We’re proud of how brave you were and that you let us know how much you liked the game. We just wanted to make sure you were still happy with the game and wanted to play again some other time.”

Oh.

“You want to play again?” Maybe we could play good guys and bad guys? “Sometimes in games, the bad guys tie up the good guys and torture them. Did you know that, Uncle Cohen?”

He might not.

Uncle Cohen hadn’t played much until me and Daddy came into his life.

We were important.

Uncle Cohen blinked at me and looked like a bug as Daddy giggled. “Yes, I think that would be a fun game too. There are lots of ways the bad guys can be wicked.”

“You’d be a very good bad guy, Uncle Cohen.” Giving him another cheek kiss, I looked at my coffee. “Can I have my drink now?”

Had I been good enough?

Uncle Cohen let out a happy sound. “Yes, cutie. You did great. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome, Uncle Cohen.” As I took a sip of my wonderfully chocolaty sweet treat, Uncle Cohen stood up and kissed my head.

Then he kissed Daddy’s head. “Uncle Cohen to the rescue.”

Daddy snorted. “You’re such a brat.”

They were both silly.

But I had my drink and I was pretty sure I could talk Uncle Cohen into letting me have more pancakes once Daddy wasn’t pouting anymore.

Hmm, maybe he needed to be the good guy and get tortured too?

Yep, Daddy was jealous he wasn’t going to get tortured, but Uncle Cohen could fix it. He liked being right and he got Daddy to agree to all kinds of things.

Every day should start with snuggles and giggles and pancakes.

Chapter 20

Bishop

Oh, I really hadn’t thought this through.

I had nothing.

Well, nothing but a nearly empty apartment…and a handful of paper napkins and some taco sauce.

Shit.

“Why are you grumbling?” Wesley’s voice coming through the phone was a good reminder that I’d stopped mid-sentence.
