“How many cupcakes do you calculate are in here?” he asked.
“One, two, three…” Ellie began counting racks of cupcakes.
When she slowed down, Garrett lifted her to shoulder height so she could count the racks Bear had obviously placed up high.
With an “oh!” Ellie continued to count.
Garrett interrupted her a few seconds later as she attempted the higher math to multiply the number of racks by two dozen. “You have almost enough cupcakes for half of the city to stop by tomorrow.”
“What if…”
He held a hand up to interrupt Ellie. “Some are babies with no teeth and adults who don’t like sweets.”
Her gasp of protest that anyone wouldn’t like her cupcakes made him struggle to control the smile that threatened to appear on his face. “Weird people exist, Rainbow.”
Walking out of the cooler, he carried her back to the supply fridge and opened the door. “Put the butter back.”
Reluctantly, she reached out to place the industrial-sized blocks onto the shelf.
“Good girl.” Garrett carried her away from the baking area. He wasn’t going to set her feet back down on the floor until she was as far away as possible. Hooking one finger through the loops on her jeans, Garrett made sure she would stay by him as he pulled the apron over her head.
“Home, Little girl,” he announced after tossing the well spattered garment into the used bin.
“I can come in early tomorrow, right?”
“Yes. I’ll wake you up to be here before the sun comes up.”
Wrapping his arm around her, Garrett walked Ellie to the door and locked up after them. He settled her into the SUV and got in quickly to drive home carefully. “Dinner, bath, and bed.”
“I’m not hungry.”
“I bet you’ll be tempted by my mashed potato soup,” Garrett suggested.
“I’ve never had mashed potato soup,” Ellie commented, turning sideways in her seat to look at him.
“I think you’ll like it a lot. It’s one of my specialties.”
“Yum. I like potato soup with cheese on top. Is that how you serve it?”
“You’ll see. I devised a special concoction for my Little girl.”
“Just for me?”
“Only for you, Rainbow.”
As Garrett turned a corner, Ellie reached a hand across the console dividing the front seats. Garrett linked his fingers with hers and raised the back of her hand to his mouth. After pressing a warm kiss to her skin, he rested their hands on his thigh. Her small sound of contentment went straight to his heart.
Chapter Fourteen
Ellie relaxed against the soft leather seat. She hadn’t realized how tired she was until they were on their way home. Startled, her mind focused on that word. Home. Did she already feel like Garrett’s home was hers?
Peeking over at him, Ellie studied his profile. Garrett maneuvered the vehicle through traffic. It didn’t feel like she’d just met him a few days ago. She felt better being with him. Even when she was so focused at work, the thought of him had drifted through her mind and Ellie had found herself smiling. Was this what having a Daddy felt like?
“You’re thinking awfully hard over there, Little girl. Anything you want to tell Daddy?”
“I missed you today,” she answered simply. That seemed to sum up all her feelings.
“I missed you today, too, Rainbow.”
Garrett drove into the driveway and let go of her hand to trigger the garage door opener on his visor. Ellie sat patiently as he parked the car and came around to help her out. Once standing, she wrapped her arms around his waist and hugged her Daddy tight.
He kissed her tenderly before running the tip of his tongue up the curve of her neck. “Mmm! Sweet. Shower first, sugar girl.”
Leading her into the house filled with the aroma of soup, Garrett stopped at the washing machine. “I think you bathed in your ingredients, Little girl. Clothes in the washer.”
Before she processed his words, her Daddy lifted her T-shirt over her head and dropped it in the washer. A fine cloud of floury sugar puffed into the air, making her laugh. As he unfastened her jeans, Ellie laughed again. “I did actually get most of the ingredients into the mixing bowl.”
“I saw all the cupcakes. I think you’re wearing at least two now,” Garrett remarked, kneeling at her feet to slip off her shoes and tug the jeans from her body. Tossing those into the washer as well, he leaned forward to swirl his tongue over her belly button. “Mmm! Do you taste so sweet everywhere?”
Nodding yes, Ellie held her breath as the heat level in the small room intensified. She squeezed her thighs together, feeling herself become wet as her body and mind responded to him. Slowly, he lowered her panties until they looped around her ankles.
“Step,” he commanded. As she obeyed, he removed the lacy garment and swept her socks from her feet.
Garrett’s hands slowly eased up the outer sides of her legs from ankle to hips. Ellie watched him lean forward slowly until his nose brushed her sensitive, bare mound. His deep inhale made her breathe with him. The intimacy of him scenting her fueled the heat building deep inside her.
