“I hear it’s good luck to get a kiss from the cook,” she says with her cheeks blushing.
After all these years, I still make her blush.
“I think we’ve had all the good luck that we need,” I say as I wrap my arms around her.
“I think you’re right,” she says as her soft tongue darts across her lips. “Can I get a kiss anyway?”
“Damn right you can.”
I pull her in even closer and give her a deep toe-curling kiss until our kids are yelling at us to stop because we’re so embarrassing.
“Deal with it!” I say with a laugh as we join the others hand in hand.
Chloe and Zoe are pouring the wine as I sit at the head of the table. I’m the oldest, so I get to make the toast.
When everyone is sitting down, I stand up and raise my glass. “To the new mates, Jeremy and Katie. May they have a long life full of—hey, where are they?”
I run my eyes down the row of kids and teenagers on my right and then on my left. They’re not here.
“I saw them run into the woods a little while ago,” Mia, one of Everett’s daughters, says.
Everyone laughs as they look over to see my reaction.
“Goddamn newlymates,” I say with a grin.
Gotta love ‘em!
The End!
