“Fuck,” he grunted against my shoulder. “Fuck, you feel so good, Josie.”
“Yes. I’m so close. Come with me, Maddox.”
And then, somehow, we got even closer. Our bodies pressed so tight together that when I hit my climax, he could feel it shudder through me.
“Josie,” he groaned, and then he came with me.
Neither of us was able to hold back from the other. Everything completely bare. And I’d never been happier.
I’d shredded myself down to the core. Accepted that I might have no career anymore. That I might have to take some inexplicable new venture to continue working. And when that had happened, Maddox had been there to catch me when I fell. And all I’d done was fall harder for him.

SAVANNAH
PRESENT
The next morning, I was still wrapped in Maddox’s arms, and I never wanted to move again.
He kissed my shoulder as I stirred. “Morning.”
“Mmm,” I said, rolling toward him. “Good morning.”
“I could get used to waking up like this.”
“That so?”
“Oh, yes.” He flipped me over and settled himself between my legs as he focused on my breasts.
“Oh,” I gasped when he sucked a nipple into his mouth.
“I wonder how you taste this morning.”
“I haven’t even brushed my teeth.”
He laughed. “I wasn’t planning to kiss those lips.”
Then, he scooted down and settled his head between my thighs until I screamed into the morning. He gave me a satisfied smirk, and we ended up kissing anyway as he buried himself inside of me. The night had been languid and all-consuming. The morning was fast and desperate as I clawed at his back. We came together just as hard as before, leaving me panting on the sheets.
“I need a shower,” he said when he collapsed next to me.
“Seconded.”
“Together?” He ran a hand over my hip bone.
“If we shower together, we’re not going to get clean.”
He gave me a devious look. “I like this even more.”
I laughed and kissed him again. “Just let me brush my teeth, and you can have the shower. I’ll shower after breakfast.”
“Where do you want to go?”
“I’ll see what you have in the fridge.”
He grimaced. “Probably not much, honestly.”
“I’ll make it work.” I kissed his nose and then hopped out of the bed.
After cleaning myself up, I headed into the kitchen. Maddox had let Walt out, and he now had his head in a bowl of food. “Good boy,” I said, scratching his head.
I pulled open the fridge and realized he was right. There really wasn’t much in there. He’d been living at the studio and eating out all the time. Then, my eyes drifted to the box of Gran’s recipes.
A smirk hit my features as I reached for it and dug out the biscuits and gravy recipe that Maddox loved so much.
When he surfaced from the shower, the biscuits were just coming out of the oven, soft and fluffy. They even looked like Gran’s biscuits. I stirred the gravy I’d made from scratch. I’d felt lucky that Maddox had sausage in the freezer. Everything smelled incredible.
Maddox’s hair was still wet when he stepped into the kitchen with wide eyes. “It smells like home in here. I thought I didn’t have anything in the house.”
“You had flour, butter, and sugar. I can make pretty much anything with that,” I said with a wink.
He reached out to touch a biscuit, and I smacked his hand.
“Hey!”
“They’re too hot.”
“They look just like … Gran’s,” he said in awe.
“I’m a pretty good cook. I thought I’d give it a shot. I know how much you loved her cooking.”
“Marry me,” he said.
“Don’t get ahead of yourself,” I said as I dished up breakfast. “You haven’t even tried it yet.”
I set the food down on the dining room table. We’d sat here with Gran and Gramps so many times over the years. It felt surreal that we were here together now without them, re-creating Gran’s recipes.
Maddox practically shoveled the food into his mouth. “How … how did you do this?”
“Made with love.”
“I stand by my earlier statement. Marry me.”
I shook my head and reached for his hand. “I love you.”
“Okay. Fine. We’ll wait. Move in then.”
“Because I can cook?”
“Because I’m crazy about you, Josie. I want you here all the time. I want you to move in. I want you to have half of the closet. I want your stuff to mingle with mine. I want you to use the kitchen and, yeah, try out all of Gran’s old recipes. I want to share this life with you. So, move in with me.”
With my heart full to bursting, I nodded. “Yes. Okay. I’ll move in.”
He kissed me hard and then stood with his plate. “I need seconds.”
I cracked up. I had a feeling I’d be making this for him forever. And I loved that idea.
I moved in the next day. Mom was glad that I’d agreed to stay in Savannah for the time being even if it wasn’t in her house. We’d agreed to meet for dinner regularly since I was less busy. Dad seemed unsurprised that I’d decided to stay. He’d known I was in love with Maddox again before I did, apparently. And he wholeheartedly approved. He just requested that we come back to Atlanta and see him again soon. Which really meant, we needed to stay longer, so he and Maddox could draw together, but I wasn’t complaining.
