Thankfully, the prospects Sully is sending haven’t arrived yet. If they had, they’d have seen the men walking in here and that would have kicked off a war I’m not prepared for.

Heading to White Pass, back to my childhood home, will be better for everyone. Even though I told Sully I won’t leave him, I know there’s no way I can ignore the fact my life is putting those I care about in life-threatening danger.

When the door swings open again, I expect to see the Royal Bastards’ prospects walking in, but instead I see a face from my past. A man I never wanted to see again.

The smirk on his face tells me there’s nothing I can do to escape him. Now he’s found me, he’s going to make sure I never run from him again.

“What are you doing here?” I bite out.

Anger, fear, and concern trickle through me. It’s a subtle movement, but I see him pull a knife from his pocket, and I step back instinctively. I know the weapon—I’ve seen it before. Rogan flicks the lock of the door, and I’m now shut in the pub alone with a man who’s going to kill me. I have no doubt in my mind that’s why he’s come here.

“I was worried about my little slut,” he tells me, his voice taking on an almost demonic tone. Rage burns in his eyes with every step he takes toward me. “I hear you’re now fucking a biker,” he says as he nears the bar. “I mean, I always figured you’d want to do that after you lost your biker daddy all those years ago. Is that why I wasn’t good enough for you?”

“Rogan, please, you don’t have to do this. We can walk away from this. We’re both moving on, and we can—”

“Like fuck am I moving on,” he shouts, causing me to jump in surprise.

My hands are shaking so much I can’t hold on to the cloth I’ve been holding, and it drops to the floor. If I can get to my phone, perhaps I can call Sully without Rogan noticing.

Sully said they’d be looking for Rogan at the airport, but it looks like he’s outsmarted them. Surely, they’ll figure out this was the first place he’d come. Sully will know. He’ll be here soon.

“You think you can just walk away from what we had?” Rogan says as he pulls a chair out from one of the tables. He swings it around and straddles the seat the wrong way. Those dark, almost demonic eyes pin me to the spot as he watches me. He rests his forearms on the back of the chair and leans forward.

“I just need you to leave. I’m happy here, and you can move on.” The suggestion makes him chuckle, but it’s not amusement I hear in the sound, it’s derision.

He shakes his head slowly as he regards me. “I was under the impression your little cunt loved when I used it.”

“Rogan,” I plead, hoping he’ll see how desperate I am to just leave, and how I want him to go. But that’s the one thing I learned about Rogan over the years—when he’s in this kind of mood, there’s no talking to him. No matter how hard I try, he’ll never respect my needs. “If you leave now—”

“If I leave now, I won’t be able to show you how much I missed you,” he tells me as he pushes to his feet.

I’m stuck behind the counter. There’s only one way out, and it’s at the far end of the bar where Rogan’s now blocking the exit.

“The pub is opening soon,” I don’t know if the warning will anger him or if it will make sure he thinks twice about what he’s doing, but for a moment, I see a flicker of hesitation in his eyes. But almost as soon as it appears, it’s gone, and I’m left staring at the face of my tormentor.

He takes slow, deliberate steps toward me, and I know there’s nothing I can do but wait it out. If I can calm him down, I can stall him until I find a way to escape.

“Let me pour you a drink. We can talk.” I pray with all I have that the offer calms him, but he doesn’t stop his steps.

He nears me until his body is flush against mine. I have to tip my head back to look at him, and in those dark eyes, I see the anger and rage spilling over. It’s like lava exploding from a volcano. I don’t know how long we stand in silence before Rogan lifts the blade.

“It’s been far too long since I’ve seen you. I’ve waited months for this,” he tells me with a smirk curling his lips.

I still can’t believe I spent so long with a man like this. I saw the best in him, or I tried to, but now, looking into his stare, I realize there’s no good anywhere in him. He made a fool of me, and I was stupid enough to believe his lies. The pain that radiates through me when the metal slithers over the sensitive skin of my cheek causes me to whimper.
