“Ronan and Liam are Aiden’s sons,” she explained. “Hunter is Aiden’s son-in-law. He’s married to his daughter, Ava. He and Dad work together a lot.”

“I can’t express how grateful we are that you came all this way to help.”

Van shrugged. “I’d do anything for my daughter. And she was so enthusiastic about this project, I wanted to see it for myself.”

Aiden chuckled. “Many hands make light work. And I want to come back and be a cowboy for a few days.”

“I’m sure we can help with that.”

A woman appeared around the corner with Rachel, and Sammy gasped, running toward her, throwing her arms around her. “Mom! I didn’t know you were coming!”

“Mila left early for LA. There was an empty seat on the plane, and I wanted to see this place. You know I love to watch you in action. I thought maybe I could help.”

Sammy hugged her again. “I would love that! I’m so excited!”

I watched her with an indulgent smile on my face. I liked seeing her happy. Then I saw the way her dad was watching me, and I schooled my features. Sammy looked like her mom, small and pretty, with the same-colored hair. The main difference was their eyes. Her mom’s were a light caramel color, warm and soft, and Sammy’s were dark and snapped fire.

Sammy brought her mom over and introduced us. She refused my hand, insisting on hugging me, and laughed when Sammy repeated the story about falling in the water.

“Nothing changes,” she mused. “Always getting into scrapes, falling off ladders, into trouble.” Then she grinned. “All while wearing pink tulle and glitter.”

“That’s our Sammy,” her dad mused.

“I haven’t worn glitter since I was twelve. Tulle either,” she sniffed. “And I don’t get into that many scrapes.”

“What did you do to your hand?” Van asked.

“Oh, cut it on a piece of wire.” Sammy grinned sheepishly. “Luke had the vet stitch it up.”

“The vet?” her mom asked, looking shocked.

“He was awesome,” Sammy said. “Very fast. And neat.”

Everyone laughed at her description, and even I had to chuckle.

“I’m sure you must be hungry,” Rachel said. “Maybe Sammy and Luke want to change, and they can join us at the cookhouse? Callie is rustling up some breakfast for you.”

Van clapped his hands. “Awesome. Then you can show us around, Sammy. We can make our plans. We already ordered a bunch of supplies that should arrive this afternoon. I’ll add anything we need, and it’ll be here in a day or two. We can get going.”

Sammy beamed at her family. “Awesome.”

I walked out of the bathroom to find Sammy on my bed. I bent down and kissed her. “Hi.”

“Sorry about that.”

I waved her off. “No big deal. Although I think your dad is already onto us.” I chuckled. “I thought I was a dead man.”

“You’re fine.” She chewed her lip. “I think.”

I dragged on my boxers and a pair of jeans, tucking in a T-shirt and adding a plaid shirt over top. Sammy watched me intently.

“What?” I asked.

“You make putting on clothes as sexy as watching them come off, Mr. Adler.”

I sauntered over and rested my hands on the mattress, caging her in. “Is that a fact, Lady?”

“Uh-huh. You are so sexy.”

“Don’t start that right now. If I show up for breakfast with you looking ravished again, I will not have any balls left to speak of. And me sporting an erection won’t help the matter either. Behave.” But I kissed her anyway, unable to resist. Her lips were warm and full underneath mine, and I groaned as I pulled away. I wanted to lock the door. Forget the RV full of her relatives. Push aside the responsibilities I had and spend the day with her, right here in my bed. I had never known anything like the draw I had to her.

I shook my head and pulled back. “You head over. I’ll be along in a few moments.”

She grinned mischievously. “Okay.”

“And stop smiling like that.”

She cleared her throat and tried to look serious. Instead, she only looked more adorable. I pulled her back into my arms and kissed her until she was breathless. Until I was light-headed and dangerously close to giving in to my unusual thoughts. I pushed her away.

“Go.”

I heard her laughing right until she closed the front door behind her.

I sat down and tried to think of the worst things I’d ever seen. I didn’t dare walk into that building right now. Her father had access to far too many knives.

The cookhouse was full. Callie was in her glory, serving up her breakfast casserole, talking to everyone. Sammy sat between her parents, and I filled my plate, sitting across from them.

Van paused in between mouthfuls. “You gonna feed your guests like this?”

“That’s the plan.”

Aiden lifted his plate for more food. “Sign me up for a month.”
