I’m glad she did though. There’s something about Mari that makes me want to see more of her, and John feels the same way. I could see us really falling for this girl.
I put the weights back on the stand and sit up. We’ve both been busy, so John and I haven’t made it to the gym in a couple weeks. As a result, my arms are already sore.
John takes my place and adjusts the weights. I didn’t start working out until we met at the PhD welcome luncheon, so he’s far ahead of me in bench pressing. I don’t think I’ll ever bench as much as he does, but I’m already lifting twice as much as I was when we started. My progress is obvious in the size of my arms.
“Do you think she’ll stick around?” I ask John as he works through his reps.
“I don’t know. I hope she does, but it’s a lot to drop on a person who isn’t experienced. She might try it and leave, or she might enjoy it. We won’t know until we get there.”
I’m envious of John’s “come what may” mentality. I tend to worry about everything, wishing I could know the end result before I start. It’s not that I think it’ll be a waste of time if Mari leaves us after one or two dates; I just want to know how attached I should get to her. If she’s going to leave, I don’t want to fall in love.
“Were you this worried when we first met?”
I laugh. “Yes, I was.”
Of course, I’d been nervous at the welcome reception before meeting John. Going for my PhD had been the next logical step in my schooling – I wanted to teach at the college level, so I needed a doctorate – but that didn’t mean I wasn’t nervous. For that matter, I’m still nervous, but John helps with my nerves.
He was the first person I met at the reception. When I was too nervous to talk to anyone, John came up to me. There had been immediate sparks between us. John asked me out that night, and we’ve been together ever since.
Over the last couple of months, though, we’ve both felt like we’re missing something in this relationship. Being together is great, but like we told Mari, we want more. A woman will round out this relationship and give us exactly what we’ve been searching for.
“You’re adorable,” John whispers. “But don’t worry so much. Our search is over. We’ve found our woman.”
“For now.”
“Have some hope, Mark. I think Mari will stay for a while.”
“I hope you’re right. Is that enough?”
He smiles. “I’ll take that for now.”
“I already feel different. Do you?”
“I do. It’s like…the energy has changed. Even after just the one day in my office.”
It’s hard to explain how John and I knew we needed a woman’s touch in our relationship. There was simply a missing energy between us. Women bring a gentleness to a relationship, especially in the bedroom.
We’ve missed a woman’s body, too. We’ve both dated women in the past – John was even married to one until he realized he was bisexual. I had just broken up with my most recent girlfriend about a month before I met John. In that relationship, I’d felt like I wasn’t getting everything I needed. John filled that empty space but left another one open.
Mari will complete us. She’s exactly what we’ve been searching for.
John and I have been discussing ways to find a third for a while now. While this lifestyle is fairly common, finding just the right third is often the difficult part. Triads are still taboo, so you have to casually identify women who might be willing to play with two guys at once. We got lucky with Mari when she stumbled upon us, literally, and agreed to give it a try.
Our search had not been very fruitful for the last few months, obviously. I was beginning to think we’d never find our third. Nothing we tried had worked.
John puts the weights back on the stand and gets up off the bench. We move to the next exercise machine, and I set it to my specifications. This particular machine works out the back. I don’t need a spotter for it, but John and I like to work out together, even though that means one of us is watching all of the time.
I’m not going to lie – I definitely enjoy the watching part. John is ripped. Him working out is one of the hottest things I’ve ever seen.
“You know who messaged me yesterday?” John asks.
“Who?”
“That seventy-year-old from the site we joined.”
I laugh so hard that I lose my grip and have to start my rep again. I’m lucky I didn’t dislocate my shoulder.
“Don’t make me laugh when we’re working out!”
