“Fuck yeah.” Wild Child's ready to go, but then he always is.
“Is there anything breakable in this?” asks Hero, holding up the duffel bag.
“N—no.” Emily's getting the gist of what's going to happen too, I think. At least from the way she grabs her mom's hand and pulls her closer. I can't believe we've got her mama too, but me and the boys lost our ability to say no to her a while ago, so here we fucking are.
Front guy has made one mistake. In pointing the taser at me, he's put it within arm's reach. Dumbfuck.
I spin left while snapping my hand out to point his hand down. The taser goes off, firing the darts into the ground, and before I can even consider if it's the kind with two shots or just one, I've planted my fist in his face. With a grunt, the fucker stumbles backwards as his legs give out. He goes ass up over one of the marble planters. One down, and I don't have time to stand here and watch the results of my handiwork.
Wild Child is off like a crazed monkey. His brand of street fighting is that anything goes, and one of the guards is already clutching his balls like a four-year-old needing to piss while a second is trying to get the dirt out of his eyes.
Hero's clearing the other side, using the momentum of the duffel bag to launch guards one way or another. Even something that soft becomes a weapon of destruction when someone his size throws his bull strength and long arms behind it.
A gun goes off, and I spin by reflex, finding Emily and dragging her in, putting myself between her and the sound. She screams as I push her against a tree, giving her cover.
“Put your gun away, moron. If we hit the hostages, we're fucked! Tasers!” At least someone among the guards has a reasonable head on their shoulders.
One of them ducks out from behind one of the trees and aims at me, but with something between a lion's roar and a monkey screech, Wild Child launches at him and tears him down. A well placed fist later, and the guy's laid out.
Fun as this is, we need to get the fuck out of here. We can't keep fighting forever, and there's a lot of them. We've got to keep Emily safe, and the longer we stick around, the less likely that is.
“Emily! Miriam! This way!” I snap out orders and hope they're not so paralyzed that they can't follow them. I'm strong, but I'm not carrying them over the wall while dealing with dozens of guards strong.
Luckily, Emily's on it. Dragging her mom behind her like she's flying a kite, she follows me while crouching to keep herself small. Clever girl.
The fight's drawing attention. Four more suits are coming around the corner, bright yellow tasers in their hands.
Something slams into my back and buzzes. There's a tingle, but nothing happens beyond that. Saved by the thick fabric of my cut. I whip around, finding a wide-eyed guard, still holding on to the taser like it's supposed to save him somehow. All it means is that he can't block my punch, and a moment later, he's on the ground.
“King!” Hero's got two of them hanging on him while he's charging around the yard like a mad bull. He throws one off while a third one raises his taser pistol and fires. It's aimed at me, but Hero dives between us. The darts strike him in the arm and he starts to shake.
Then he falls over, like a felled oak tree.
Fuck.
“Keep moving,” I tell the girls as I turn towards Hero.
He rolls up onto his knees with his face twisted in intense concentration and holds up a hand telling me to stop. Then he grips the still buzzing wire in his meaty fist and wraps it up around his arm. He tugs, yanking the pistol out of the surprised guard's hands, and with a tight grimace, pulls the darts out of his arm and tosses them aside. Streaks of blood run from where they were buried in his flesh.
His massive legs are shaking, but he fights his way back onto his feet. He growls like a wounded bear, and that's all it takes for the guard to run away. “That's right. Fuck off,” he yells, but I can tell he's shaken.
“Hero, this way.” We're taking too fucking long, and I'm not convinced any of the rest of us could take a taser hit and fight through it like he did. He's a fucking monster. “Defensive!”
Putting the wall at our back, forming a shield around the girls, we prepare to fight it out. Until we've somehow dealt with the guards, we're not going to get the girls over, but fuck, there's a lot of them.
