"All work and no fun makes Playboy a grumpy motherfucker," the amused one says.
Playboy. That's the second time he's called him that. Is it a road name? There's no way these two are in the Vipers. I haven't even gotten a good look at them, and I already know neither fits the bill. They're too…different. Playboy is wearing a suit, for one. I doubt a single brother in the Vipers even owns a suit. And the other one is funny. None of the Vipers possess that particular trait. Plus, they wouldn't be sneaking around the pawnshop if they were my brother's friends.
"Shut the fuck up, Giant," Playboy growls at his friend.
Giant chuckles, unoffended.
"Don't scream," Playboy says, his voice at my ear. He hesitates and then slowly pulls his hand away from my mouth.
I briefly think about screaming just because he told me not to do it, but then decide against it. I might be crazy—I'm pretty sure I am crazy—but I actually believe him. I don't think he wants to hurt me.
"Why are you sneaking around my brother's pawnshop?" I ask.
"Your brother is Connor Grady?"
"I didn't say that," I lie.
"Right," Giant chuckles. He looms into view suddenly. And whoa. He's even more massive than I thought he was. He reminds me of a cage fighter, only with a little boy smile, dimples, and pure wickedness in his gray eyes. "He's the owner of this here fine establishment."
"Which makes you Catriona Grady," Playboy says.
I shiver at the sound of my name on his lips. It sounds beautiful…seductive.
"Will you let me go?" I growl at him, wiggling in his hold.
"Hell no," he rasps. "I like you right where you are, little one."
"Stop calling me that."
"You are little," Giant says.
"Only because you grew up with Goliath and his friends up the beanstalk," I mutter, still struggling in Playboy's arms. I may be short, but I'm far from small. I wear a size twenty-two on a good day. I've got more boobs and more butt than I know what to do with. Usually, I hide them in oversized hoodies. It keeps Connor from flipping out when his creepy friends leer at me. As if it's my fault they think anything with a vagina is fair game.
"She's mouthy," Giant chuckles.
Playboy sighs, his warm breath ruffling pieces of my blonde hair. It blows across the side of my face, sending another shiver through me. My stomach quivers and trembles, though I don't know why. There's no way I'm attracted to this man. I don't even know what he looks like!
He feels good, though, a little voice whispers. It's not wrong. It's been a long time since anyone held me. I can't even remember when anyone other than Connor hugged me. I'm not even sure I remember the last time he hugged me. This feels a little too much like a hug.
"If you aren't here to hurt me, can you please let me go?" I plead quietly.
Playboy must hear the quiver in my voice because he immediately releases me. I stumble a step before I manage to catch myself. As soon as I'm steady, he spins me around to face him. The instant I catch sight of him, I realize two things simultaneously.
I know this man.
And I'm in far more danger than I thought.
Playboy, or Andreas Romano, is a member of the Silver Spoon MC. He's also a billionaire. His picture has graced the front of every business magazine in the country, most of the fashion and society magazines too. He's freaking gorgeous. And I don't mean in the carefully coiffed way most of the upper echelon of society are gorgeous. I mean he's five-alarm fire gorgeous.
I read somewhere that his mom was Greek, and his father was Italian. It shows. His dark hair is wild on top but faded on the sides, making him look both put together and a little bit wild at the same time. His onyx bedroom eyes hide behind a prominent brow and long lashes. His full lips and sharp jawline are literal freaking perfection. His olive skin has a healthy, natural glow even in the semi-darkness.
He's not quite as big as his friend, but he towers over me, eclipsing me. I feel small in his presence, vulnerable. It's strange though. Even knowing who he is, I don't feel like I'm in danger. In fact, as he stares at me with his eyes an inexplicable mix of hard and soft, I feel…safer than I have in a long time.
What the hell?
"You didn't scream," he says, watching me intently.
"You told me not to."
Giant chuckles like he finds this funny.
Andreas shifts his gaze from me to him. "Go keep an eye out," he says.
"You're ruining my fun."
"Dodging a hail of bullets if the Vipers catch us snooping around will ruin more than your fun," Andreas says, his eyes on me again.
