“Yeah, I guess you’re right, never looked at it that way. Anyway, you don’t have to keep giving me the death glare, Caitlin is just trying to hook me up with her cousin who’s coming tomorrow. That’s what we were talking about. I’ve been hounding her for pictures but she won’t give. Do you know her cousin Annalisa?”
My shoulders relaxed at this bit of news and I felt the tension leave. “Yeah I know her, haven’t seen her in a while though.” Caitlin had said her aunt and uncle had had other plans before her mom decided to have a BBQ and that’s why the family wasn’t here.
“Is she as gorgeous as Caitie?”
“Bruh!” He sidestepped my glare laughing his ass off.
“It’s an honest question brother.” I guess he had a point, but still. “No one’s as gorgeous as Caitlin.” The fuck is he calling Caitie? That’s a name for family and me. Damn, what happened to my calm resolve? “Later!”
I walked away when I noticed that she was done talking to her mom. Maybe this Davey douche isn’t as bad as I thought, but still…shit, I’m going to be dealing with this guy for a long time since he’s part of the SEALs and they’re in with my father in law. Dammit!
Lyon
“Dude, Kat’s getting vicious.” Jared grinned as we all stood around in the backyard after that little sideshow. I kept asshole Grimaldi in my sights but the old reprobate steered clear of me. “You saw that too did you?” I didn’t say shit else because I had to process.
I know for a fact as twisted as he is, he’d never do that shit to my daughter, fucker doesn’t know how to say no to my kids. And Kat? Somebody pull that shit with one of her cubs she’d go for the jugular, so yeah. I’m not buying this shit.
“I’m gonna go put my girls down, be right back.” I walked away and left him to explain to the others what he was talking about. “Kat, Cayla and Cayleigh are ready to go down.”
“I’ll help you Colt, I need the practice.” Oh so that’s how it is. They’ve got their shit together this time.
I accepted the help from Cierra and made out like I didn’t know what the hell was going on. She talked my damn ear off about any and everything but what the fuck they were up to. I have to remember to tell Mancini that his wife is a federal level sneak.
I put the kids to bed after wiping them down and we both returned outside. The SEALs were ready to head out since their little ones were already out for the count and the women were starting to wilt. Kat likes to leave the teens out there for a little while after the adults were gone but tonight she seemed to have other ideas.
I don’t know how she did it but it seemed like the place was cleared out in five minutes flat. I saw Caitie and the boy standing off in the shadows at the side of the house hugging and swaying to some shit that must’ve been playing in their heads since there was no music on anywhere.
I gritted my teeth and didn’t say shit when I caught my wife watching me watching them. When she realized I was going to leave them alone, she went on inside while I said bye to the guys as they left to go to mom and dad’s place. “We have a lotta shit to do tomorrow before we leave for Law’s.”
“I know Tyler, it’ll keep.”
“Yeah, but the rate your wife is going you don’t have much time. Damn, they got you good.” He slapped my shoulder and nuzzled his kid who was asleep on his chest.
“Say Lyon, you’ve got nine kids. How do you corral them like that? How do you keep them so…calm? Between baby Belle and Zakira I’m running out of ideas.”
“If you’re calm, they’re calm, they get their cues from you. Zakira is the oldest kid on the compound. She had all your attention before the new babies came. The trick is to still find time for her and involve her in things you do with the baby. But you must remain calm, you start spazzing the fuck out, you’ll lose control of the situation.”
“Colt, you are one domesticated fuck.”
“Fuck off Jared and go home. You guys coming by tomorrow right? We got shit to do.”
“No doubt.” They left out, Travis being the last one to leave after having a little chat with his cousin Mancini.
He and I were the last ones inside, leaving Caitie and the boy outside on the swing. She’s a good kid Colt, you don’t have to worry. Mancini saw the struggle and clapped me on the back. “You’re getting there, just breathe.” I’m gonna shoot one of these fucks if they don’t stop their shit.
