“Shit’s all over the place, these humps are getting really good at this shit.”
We were getting things in order, everyone throwing around ideas when we heard the commotion coming from downstairs. All the men stood up and started heading for the door in a panic.
Catalina came bounding into the room. “Uncle Hank the baby’s coming.” She dragged him out the door and I’ve never seen a kid this excited.
“I’m gonna get my camera, this is going to be great. You’re gonna let me tape it aren’t you uncle Hank, you owe me.” He didn’t answer as she dragged him down the hallway as the rest of us followed.
LYON
“Bruh, what the fuck is up with Mancini?” Everyone else was in a panic but this fuck had gone ice. I’ve never seen anyone switch off so fast in my life. Now I’ve seen this guy in a whole lotta different moods, but this was a new one.
As soon as we got downstairs he knelt beside his wife who was doing her best to breathe. “Cierra, did your water break?” She nodded her head and he got to his feet and pulled his phone while brushing her hair with his fingers.
“Wilson, you got a bead on me?”
“Yes, what do you need?”
“Cierra went into labor, I need doctor Stein here stat. I have my plane so you’ll have to use yours.”
“Son, she might not make it in time, there are doc…”
“No, she’s coming, another thing, what do you know about the local hospital?”
“One of the men there with you used to be the head of said hospital and is still on the board.”
“He might not be able to…I need the whole floor.”
“You have clearance.”
“I can’t deal with that right now.”
“I’m on it.”
We heard his end of the conversation before he hung up, I don’t think he even blinked once since we came downstairs. “Fuck if I know Ty!” What the fuck is this? This guy just went into some kinda mode like he’d switched everything off and was totally focused on what he had to do. No outside noise. It’s like we weren’t even here.
“Baby, we don’t have your bag here.”
“Don’t worry Hank I have one.” Kat held up the bag she’d ran upstairs to grab.
“Thanks Katarina, Dr. Lyon, I have someone working on getting a floor in your hospital but we need to head there now. Is there a private floor there?”
“Well yes but…”
“Fine, let’s get moving.” He lifted her from the chair and started for the door. “Who’s the best OBGYN, female, on staff? Lyon who do you use?”
“Uh, I’ll get the number.” I searched through my phone and found the number.
“Tell her I need her there ASAP but my wife’s doctor is flying in from New York, she should be here in four hours maybe three.” His phone rang just as we made it out to the car. Mom was yelling after us that she and Tina along with Char would watch the kids since all the adults had pretty much rushed the door.
“We’ll stay back and help too.” Caitlin offered, but Mengele was already standing by the door to my truck. I didn’t even bother telling her no, after the night she’d had she could have anything. It’s up to Mancini if he wanted her taping that shit.
I found the twins in the middle of the chaos and pulled them aside. “You two stick close to the house, look after your grandmothers and your siblings. Make sure Cody is watched every second if he plays outside you hear me?”
“Yes dad, we got it.”
The caravan pulled out just as Jared and my boys were coming down the street, they took one look and fell in behind on their bikes. I answered the phone when he called. “What’s up Colt?”
“Cierra went into labor.”
“Roger!” He hung up and we drove hell-bent for leather because Mancini had his foot on the gas up ahead. Mengele was jumping around in the backseat like she was hopped up on her grandfather’s stash.
MANCINI
I knew she was going to do this to me. I was barely hanging on by a thread but I knew if I lost it, that it would only scare her more than she already was. “You’re doing good baby!” I held her hand as I listened to the GPS tell me where we were going. I didn’t even think to follow Colt or one of the others who would know where that shit is.
Wilson had called back with the news that he’d taken care of getting me the floor and Colt’s doctor was on her way. I gritted my teeth each time she squeezed my hand or moaned in pain. “Hank?”
“Right here with you.”
“Grace!” She was speaking in one-word sentences so I know she was in pain, Fuck!
“Wilson will take care of it.”
“We made it to the hospital and Wilson had come through. We were met by about four people in lab coats who ushered us inside.
