“Because you can,” he says and turns me with his good arm and pulls me against him. “Because the adrenaline is finally wearing off, and you know that everything is fine. I’m fine, baby.”

“I know.” I wipe at the tears and look up at his impossibly handsome face. “I just love you so damn much.”

“I love you, too. I’m not going anywhere. I don’t think I could drive tonight.”

“That’s not funny.” But I offer him a watery smile. “Is your head okay?”

“Yeah, I got lucky there.”

“I wish I could just put you in a big plastic bubble so that you’re safe.” He frowns down at me, and I cup his face in my hands. “You’re precious cargo, Drew.”

“A big plastic bubble isn’t really the fashion statement I’m going for,” he says. “But I will be careful. It was an accident, London. It wasn’t anyone’s fault.”

“Caleb was worried that it was his fault because he made you slam on the brakes.”

“Shit, I’ll talk to him.” He closes his eyes grimly. “It wasn’t his fault. It was just icy.”

“I know that. And so does he, but he could probably use some reassurance in that department.”

“I’ll do that.”

“But stay here with me for a minute first,” I add, holding on to him and loving the way he feels against me, so strong and real. “I’m not ready to let go.”

“You know, I had big plans for last night.”

I look up at him, surprised. “You did?”

“Yeah, big plans. But this works, too.” He reaches up and brushes a strand of my hair off my cheek. “I love you, London. I know that there will be times when our relationship isn’t easy. Teenagerhood, for example. Or, if we never win a championship title.”

“Oh, God, we’re doing this.”

His face turns sober. “Yeah, we’re doing this. We’re absolutely doing this because I love you completely. I love your loyalty, your intelligence, your passion. I love that little noise you make when I first slide inside of you.”

I can’t help but smile at that.

“There isn’t anything that I don’t love. And I love Caleb, too. He’s the best. I want you both in my life until I take my last breath. And I’d like to have more children with you.”

I feel my eyes go round, and Drew swallows hard.

“You mentioned once that you don’t plan to have more kids.”

“I didn’t,” I admit. “But that was because I hadn’t met anyone I wanted to take that on with. I hadn’t met you. I would love to have more babies with you, Mr. Montgomery.”

“You don’t have to say that just to placate me.”

“Oh, I don’t usually placate anyone.” I loop my arms around his neck and thread my fingers through his hair. “Now, are you going to ask me a very important question?”

“I’m getting to it. You’re so impatient.”

I grin, and when he leans in to kiss me, I pull back. “Ah, ah, ah. I’m still waiting here.”

“Marry me, London.” He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a ring, offering it to me. “Be mine.”

“I am yours.” I narrow my eyes. “Holy shit, that’s my grandmother’s ring.”

“Yeah, your dad gave it to me for you.”

I stare up at him, stunned. “My dad gave it to you? For real?”

“Yeah. He totally likes me now. You didn’t say yes.”

“Well, it wasn’t much of a question, but yes.” His lips descend on mine, and I kiss him like my life depends on it, until he moans, and I realize that I’m gripping onto his shoulder. “Sorry, babe. I got excited.”

“I can live with it. Caleb’s going to be excited that he doesn’t have to keep the secret anymore.”

“He knew?” I blink, surprised. “He’s horrible at secrets.”

“I know.” He laughs and leans in to kiss me again. “Let’s go tell him the good news.”

Bonus Epilogue

Brynna Montgomery

I’ve often wondered who the woman would be that Drew chose as his wife. Even when he was a tiny baby, and I rocked him endlessly through the night, I’d gaze down into his sweet face and wonder who she would be. My deepest wish was that she would love him even half as much as I do.

Because if she loved him just that much, he would be so incredibly loved, he’d shine with it.

I also wanted her to like me. I didn’t know if I could dare hope that she would love me the way I adore my amazing mother-in-law, Gail, but I wanted her to at least like me. I want holidays and soccer games and special events with the woman that I’d bring into my family as a third daughter.

And I’m so damn delighted to know that I have all of that and more in London.

She’s exactly what I would have hand-picked for my boy if I could have. And her son? Well, there’s nothing better in the world than a ready-made grandson, as far as I’m concerned.
