Of course I knew he was right. We had been fucking most of the day, and still I yearned for more. After cuming once from his fangs and then from his cock, I begged for more.

I knew this would happen. I would be dependent on him, needy. And. . .I didn’t care.

Come here, Xander.

Go to sleep. There will be more sex and biting after we rest. Trust me. I want to be inside of you right now too.

Then, come here.

I delivered a vision of me naked with my hands between my thighs and hoped he witnessed it.

Growling ensued outside my door.

Please, Camille. Go to sleep. His voice seeped into my head, caressing my body from the inside.

How can I sleep when you do things like that?

He didn’t respond. Instead, noise echoed outside the door and then another door slammed shut.

He must have moved from sleeping by the campfire and went to the couch in the room Leeta was resting in.

I yanked his rainbow blanket up over my chest, completely pissed with him.

This fucking blood bond is making me crazy!

I should be welcoming his restraint and trying to get sleep. I’d heard the nightmarish stories of how vampires fucked and drained women until they were nothing but dry lifeless husks, and still some vampires continued to fuck.

I was painfully aware of the danger, yet still desperately yearned for it.

My body pulsed with an unbearable ache, my chest heaving with emotion. I clenched my jaws and rode out the wave of desire.

He’s right. I need to go to sleep.

I shut my eyes and inhaled his scent on the pillows. Love and desire tangled around me. I hugged the pillow close to me and did my best to go to sleep.

My heart ached with the need to feel his arms around me.

Goodnight, Xander.

Goodnight, my queen.

Deadly silence engulfed the space as I began to slip into darkness.

Suddenly, a deep rumbling voice sounded above my head. “I can’t believe he left you alone.”

“What?” My eyes snapped open.

I rolled to my back and looked up.

“O-oh my God.” My voice trembled in fear as my gaze met the eyeless being.

Ian hovered over me, hanging upside down from the ceiling. Dust sprinkled down from him.

He whispered, “Please don’t scream. You’ll want to hear what I have to say.”

My heartbeats increased to an erratic pace. “What?”

“You know that I will not harm you.”

“How do I know that?”

“Because. . .I want you to be my queen, and Xander to be my king. That means that my life goal would be to protect you, not harm you.”

I trembled.

“I’m old. I have a lot of information. Can we talk?”

I should have screamed. I should have mentally called to Xander to have him rush in here. But for some crazy reason, I believed that he wouldn’t harm me. Surely, he desperately wanted out of the sewer, and according to him, Xander and I would be his way to escape.

“Ian. . .please don’t hurt me.”

“Never, my queen.” He flipped down, catapulting through the air with ease and precision. Dust floated around him. Then, he landed on the bed right next to me.

I bounced a little.

More dust came.

I coughed, but didn’t move my hand to cover my mouth. Shaking, I lay there, frozen and unable to utter a sound.

He got in a crouching position and inched closer to me. “Thank you for helping my body find my head.”

“Y-your welcome.”

“It was very kind.”

“W-why are you here?”

“That woman was human, now she’s a vampire.”

“Is that all you have to say?” I gripped the blanket with my hands and squeezed the cloth with my fingers.

Ian rested next to me and crossed his legs. “Your blood changed the woman?”

“I don’t know why Leeta is a vampire.”

Ian sniffed and then moved his head from side to side. “You’re lying to me. It had to be your blood.”

“Why?”

“Well, I didn’t conclude this until after several details.” His skeleton hands rubbed the gray decaying flesh on his chin. Dust sprinkled down between his fingers.

“Earlier this week, my friends that hang on the ceiling near the exit of the sewer said that Xander carried a woman with red hair away.”

“You already knew I was with him earlier this week. Being that you attacked me.”

“Well, I wouldn’t say attacked. Rather, my wooing is rustier than it used to be.”

I rolled my eyes.

He pointed to the holes above his nose. “As you know, I have no eyes. I can see your blood, of course. It’s red and shaped in what I assume to be your body’s form, but I can’t see what you actually look like.”

I widened my eyes. “O-kay.”

“So it was to my surprise when they told me your hair was red.”

“Because?”

“Because I know another whose hair was red and her blood could turn humans into other things, with just one sip.”

“You do?”

“She was killed for her blood.”
