Still smiling, she shook her head. “And you’re still wearing that bag around your neck, right?”
“Of course, ma’am.”
“Good.” She grabbed the box and did her best to not look at those kittens.
Thinking of that moment made me lose track of the wolves’ howls.
I stopped the snow mobile.
Where did they go?
I scanned the area. Snow fell all around me. From here, I could see Faith’s house off in the distance. It would take me barely three or five minutes to zoom over there and check on her.
I looked at the house.
The lights were off and it was super late. There was no doubt that she was fast asleep in bed.
Being the jealousy crazy person that I was, I turned my attention to her driveway and made sure it was just her car there.
What would I have done if there was some guy’s car in the driveway? I can’t even think about that. Thank God, she’s not out in town dating anyone. I’m not ready for that.
I laughed.
Neither is Brett.
The few times I spied on Faith at night, driving around her property and trying to appear nonchalant, I bumped into Brett. We never spoke, just drove by each other. We both knew why we were constantly on that road always at night. There were no other houses out there. Anyone on that road would be heading to Faith.
You miss her now? Don’t you, Brett?
Every time he drove by, he glared my way. We must’ve passed each other at least five times a week. It was such an odd thing we had going. Two desperate men circling her place, just like the packs of wolves I searched for. The only difference between the wolves and me, was that I would not fall back, if Brett came near her romantically again. I would attack. Dissect his manhood and sling it in one of the nearby lakes.
I bet I gut you clean, before you get her back.
And Brett had to know why I was sniffing around the property. That was why he never nodded his head or waved hi. He just gave me that deadly gaze and slowed his car as if he were hoping I would stop and get out to fight.
Don’t try me, Brett.
I stood in silence for a few seconds more and got ready to turn on the snow mobile and head home. But another sound stopped me. Froze me to the core.
Is that someone moaning?
“Oh!”
It was a woman. There was no doubt about it.
“Oh, Remy!”
My dick hardened. I didn’t know why. It had been a year since I’d gotten laid. Once Faith and Brett separated, I didn’t feel like dating anybody else anymore. Like a vulture, I hovered over that dead marriage, waiting for the right moment to swoop down and devour that beautiful woman.
“Oh, Remy!”
Is that Faith? No. It can’t be. She’s just on my mind. That’s it. But where is the noise coming from? There shouldn’t be anybody out here but the owners, and that’s just Faith tonight.
“Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh!”
I gripped the snowmobile’s handles.
That’s Faith.
How could I forget her moan or the taste of her?
I knew it all by heart, even though it had been twenty-two-fucking years. Even though the very idea of touching her skin the way I wanted to and kissing her the way I dreamed of, made me scared shitless.
I remembered it all.
I painted her.
I drew our moments.
She was my obsession. My twisted, crazed obsession.
“Oh!”
And she was now having sex with somebody else.
Insanity surged through my body. I jumped off the snowmobile and like a mad man I tracked those earth-trembling moans.
What am I going to do when I get there? What the hell can I do? She has every right to be with any man, even Brett. I can’t do anything. No. If it is Brett, I really am going to kill him. He doesn’t get two chances with her! No. What am I saying? Turn around, Daniel! Turn the fuck around!
“Oh! Oh, Remy!”
Who the fuck is Remy?
I picked up my pace.
Chapter 12
Daniel
I
t didn’t take long to find Faith. The sweet sound of her moans filled the air.
The wolves howling had disappeared like magic. Even if they’d made a noise, I’d been done with them.
“Oh Remy!” Faith moaned.
Nothing could prepare me for what I witnessed that night.
“Remy, yes,” she whispered. “Like that.”
It took me barely ten minutes to get to her. I stood behind a big tree, peeking out from the other side.
Faith?
Moonlight bathed her naked body. She was sensual chocolate encased in snow. Scattered flakes glistened over her bare breasts. Her nipples poked out hard on those full mounds.
And her moans. They rose out of her—a chorus of pleasurable sounds. Yet no one was there. Not one person. It was just Faith. Naked in the snow. Lapping at ice and grinding the white powder between her thighs.
