“That would be a real shame.”

“He may go ahead with the two ranches—there’s plenty of room to do what he wants,” JB continued. “Though we do have the bigger spread and a better spot for the actual hotel.” He squinted into the sun. “It would suck to look across this lake and see a hotel.”

Cole had to agree. It was peaceful and pretty out here. Water lapped gently against the side of the boat and the air smelled so fresh, even with the faint scent of fish. The hills stretched out as far as he could see around the lake. He took another swallow of beer and closed his eyes.

Taking the boat out had been a good idea even if it did kind of feel like this was a date. Is that what this was? He opened his eyes and looked at JB to find that blue gaze on him again. He lifted a brow.

“Sorry. You gotta know you’re nice to look at. Can’t seem to help myself.” JB’s smile was sheepish. “Those kisses in the barn were pretty nice, too.”

Everything he’d done with JB had been more than nice. Despite the fact that he was confused over a lot of it—he’d still enjoyed it all. He took in the man’s relaxed pose, his broad shoulders and long, lean frame. He was attracted to JB; there was no denying that. Even his muscular calves drew Cole’s gaze. It didn’t even seem to make a difference that they were hairy legs, he liked what he saw. And his fingers ached to explore more. “I have a feeling I’ll be kissing you again.”

“Oh, yeah? You’re not freaked out by my being male?”

Cole’s mouth turned up. “A little. Not as much as I’d expect. There’s something about you that…well, gets me going, so to speak.”

JB threw his head back with a joyous laugh. “I like hearing that since you do the same to me.” He propped up his rod in the holder and turned in his chair to better face Cole. “So, let’s date. While you’re here. See where this thing goes. Nothing formal or stressful. Just spend time together and get to know one another.”

Staring at JB, Cole felt a trickle of warmth in his gut at the thought of doing more with JB. He liked the man too much not to take this further.

JB reached out and rested a palm on his thigh. “You want to try more?”

“I do,” he answered after a moment. He placed his hand over JB’s and JB turned his so it was palm up and they could thread their fingers together. “In fact, I was counting this as a date.”

“Then we should get to know each other more. What do you do besides computers and jacking up that awesome body of yours? Or tell me about your family.”

“I still have my mom and dad and a younger brother, Joel. He’s a science teacher while both parents have retired. I grew up in Ohio. They still live in the same house I grew up in. And I’m really not that interesting. I do play video games sometimes—get into competitions with my coworker, Quinn. Other than that, it’s just work.” Cole took a drink of his beer. “What do you do for fun?”

“You’ve seen it. Netflix when I get off work. Occasionally, I go into town, hit a bar, but I’m mostly about the work and relaxing when I get off. I’m boring as hell.”

“I wouldn’t say that.”

He waggled his brows. “I will admit to watching a lot of bad scary movies. It’s my guilty pleasure, though I really hate that term. Why ever feel guilty about something that brings pleasure? But I find I can relax with those movies because they don’t take a lot of thought, and I freaking love the monster ones.”

“I tend to watch action flicks, but I like a good psychological scary thriller. Tonight you can show me one of your favorite monster movies.”

JB lifted a brow. “So, this date is going to continue?”

Cole grinned. “It’s going well, wouldn’t you say? Though we haven’t yet caught our dinner.”

“There’s still plenty of time. In fact, I’ll move the boat and we’ll try a new spot.” He got up, but before he moved to steer the boat to a new place, he leaned over and lifted Cole’s chin for a long, lingering kiss. Cole returned it, opening his mouth so their tongues could slide against each other. JB groaned into the kiss, then pulled away. He didn’t go far, just enough to look at Cole. “I’m glad we’re going to continue this,” he whispered. “I really like you, Cole McCord.”

“I really like you, too, JB Alexander.”

JB dropped one more kiss onto his lips, then went to move the boat. They spent the next few hours trying different places on the lake before Cole caught two fish big enough for their dinner.
