“I should file a police report,” she says as she looks out the window. “They have my address.”
I pull the truck over abruptly and throw it into park. “What?”
It kills me to see her upset. It physically hurts. I’m her mate and it’s my job to put one of two faces on her: a happy smile or her twisted up O face.
And I haven’t seen either yet.
“I had a stack of resumes with me and they have my name, phone number, and address on them. I dropped them when he grabbed me and as we were leaving, I saw one of the guys taking one.”
I’ve never wanted to break something more in my entire life. I want to crush their skulls.
“You’re staying with me.”
It’s not an offer or a question or a suggestion. It’s a command. She’s mine and she’s staying with me. Forever.
“What?”
“I’m not about to drop you off at your place and have those three men come back when I’m not there.”
She has no answer for this. She just stares out the window, lost in thought.
“It’s okay, Willow,” I say as I put my hand on hers. “I’ll take care of you.”
She squeezes my hand and turns to me. I can hear her heart pounding.
“I don’t even know your name.”
“Cameron Bowen. And I promise you, I’ll do anything to keep you safe.”
And anything to keep you satisfied.
“Where do you live?”
“On a ranch with my brothers. Just outside of town.”
She looks at my arm, which is mostly healed now except for a long pink line that should be gone by tomorrow morning, and sighs.
“It’s going to be okay,” I tell her softly. “You can trust me.”
“I don’t know why, but I do.”
It’s because we’re mates. Her body knows that I’ll keep her protected.
I still can’t believe my mate was walking around town and I didn’t know it. How is that possible?
“Where are you from?” I ask her. “You just moved into town?”
“I moved from Atlanta,” she tells me. “I got sick of the city and wanted something new. I’ve always loved nature and animals, and I don’t know… I just felt drawn to Montana. Like something was pulling me here.”
Our bond was pulling her here.
“And then when I was passing through this town, I just had to stop. It was weird. I felt compelled to stay. Like my body knew something I didn’t.”
“What do you know about shifters?” I ask her. I want to tell her we’re mates, but I think I need to move a bit slower than just blurting it out while I’m buck naked in the truck.
“I know they heal fast,” she says as she glances at my arm. “And they’re pretty good fighters.”
She’s about to find out something else—how insatiable a bear shifter can be once they find their mate. I’m already obsessed with this girl and I haven’t even gotten a taste of her yet.
I’m trying not to think about what I want to do to her, otherwise I’ll have a towering hard on between my legs, which might make things a little bit awkward.
“Do you have animals on your ranch?” she asks.
I’m staring at her lips and picturing my cock sliding between them as she grips onto my shaft when it hits me.
“Shit!”
“What is it?”
“I forgot about the cows.”
I throw the truck back into drive and start to roll down the street.
“What’s wrong?”
I explain to her about the drought and having to buy feed for the animals.
“I can help you,” she says eagerly. “I love animals.”
“You want to come to the feed store?”
She nods in excitement. “Definitely!
“Are you going like that?” she asks as she glances down at my dick that’s running thick along my leg.
“This town is full of shifters. People won’t think twice about it.”
Her mouth drops.
“I’m kidding. I have an old pair of jeans in the back. For emergencies like this.”
“Oh,” she says with a nod before turning to look out her window.
I grin because I think I heard a hint of disappointment in her voice.
But she won’t be disappointed for long.
She’ll be seeing it again once I get her home.
Chapter Four
Willow
My eyes are glued to Cameron as he steps out of the truck. He’s insanely hot. It shouldn’t even be legal how gorgeous this man is.
He’s in a public parking lot and he doesn’t even cover himself as he walks around to the back of the truck. To be fair though, if I had a body like that, I wouldn’t bother covering it up either.
The man must be at least six-foot-two with a frame that would easily be the biggest in any NFL locker room. But where linebackers are fat and flabby, Cameron is rock hard muscle with sun-bronzed skin.
I could barely think in the car with his package out and me being so close to him. I’m so wet right now. I was worried I was going to leave a puddle on his seat when I got out.
