“Done.” Malcolm grins, looking ten years younger.

“I should have listened to you…you hated her from the beginning.” Rubbing my forehead that’s now starting to pound, I realize I should probably try and sober up as I am taking control of my life, making huge changes, but I’ll do that tomorrow. As it is, I’m about to surprise stream a love song I wrote for Ammo, hoping it will at least get him talking. I need the liquid courage.

“I’m texting Todd, my PR guy, to help you with the upcoming days,” Mel squeals as she grabs her phone.

“We can work with Todd. Get him over here as soon as possible. I want Courtney out and about, no more hiding,” he states all this as he types on his phone again, then looks up and smiles, excitement in his eyes. I can always tell when a song is going to hit big because I see it in his eyes.

“This is it. I’m loading it, no going back now.”

Suddenly, I want to run, but the only person I want to run to won’t see me.

“You okay?” Mel’s voice makes me drop back down into the cushioned seat as I look at her.

“Yep, never been better. Call your tattoo guy, Mel, I’m making major changes starting today.”

AMMO

“Sir. Jett Powers is here at the gate.” I look over my shoulder at another unfamiliar face that Rafe and Ace insist on having here.

I think his name was Pete, Charlie? Fuck if I know, stupid ass shit. If anyone wants at me, I’m right here, not hiding, and not needing protection.

“So?” I snap, turning to look at the man. Then check myself, because he’s hired to do a job, not listen to a dick like me because my heart fucking aches and I’m trying to stay out of jail.

“So. The paparazzi are surrounding his Ferrari.” He clears his throat. “Do you want me to get the cops up here again? Or try and clear them out myself?”

“Nah, screw it, open the gate, if any actually step onto the property, then deal with them,” I say as I walk with him, the sound of horns, angry neighbors, and helicopters circling my house have almost become my norm.

I am going to have to do something about them. Not sure who is tipping them off? But they have been parked outside my house for days. Maybe it’s the cops, Christ, for all I know it’s Rachel…doesn’t matter after today because this shit is gonna end.

The sound of Powers’s horn makes me grin…if you want to take down a cunt, you call in the best.

“Sir, I think it’s best if I bring him in.” The bodyguard stops me from opening my own door, and again, I take a breath.

He’s just doing his job, I mentally remind myself, then say, “Thanks, but I can handle this.”

“It’s him. Ammo, over here,” one of the paparazzi screams.

“Ammo, what is going on with Rachel Stewart? Where’s Courtney? Did you two break up? Why is Jett Powers here? Ammo? Ammo?” I ignore all the questions as I wait for Jett.

He doesn’t even acknowledge them, just walks up my driveway looking like he should be People magazine’s next “Sexiest Man Alive.” Not gonna lie, if you had told me a year ago I’d be greeting the arrogant Jett Powers at my house, I’d probably have punched you in the face. He’s cutthroat, and a billionaire who made his fortune by being the best defense attorney money can buy. Got to hand it to him, he used his brains, and his looks, to conquer the world.

“Thanks for coming.” I nod at him. He grins and motions with his head at the screaming masses.

“This is fun.”

“Fucking shitshow,” I grumble as Pete goes out to deal with a couple photographers climbing my gate, and I shut the door.

“Yeah, I’d have come to you. Somehow, I didn’t think you’d appreciate me bringing all them with me.” I grin as he snorts.

“Drink?” Walking into the main room, Jett rolls up his sleeves and takes out his phone from his jeans.

“Why not.” He sits down on the couch. “Look, Ammo, this might sound like me being a prick, but I’m not here for you.”

I hesitate, then grab a bottle of Japanese whiskey.

“Continue.” Leave it to fucking Jett to get right to the point.

“I’m here for my wife. Raven’s pregnant, and all this shit with Rachel, I can’t have around us. You understand?” I pour us both a generous amount of the amber nectar and hand it to him.

“Now.” He leans forward, elbows resting on his knees. “Everything Rachel is saying about you raping her is all circumstantial. It would never hold up in court, especially with me defending you.”

I sit across from him and sip the smooth whiskey, watching him weave everything in such a way, I wonder why I was even worried.
