I wake Gigi with a kiss an hour before I need to leave, and she smiles up at me, warming my thawing heart. “Hi,” she murmurs.
“Are you hungry?” I question.
“I could eat,” she says with a smile, her voice thick with sleep.
“Good,” I tell her as my finger runs down her cheek, past her neck, and between those perfect breasts. “As much as I hate to say this,” I tell her with a heavy sigh, “you need to get dressed.”
“Really?” she frowns.
A laugh rumbles through my chest. “Yeah, babe.”
She sits up on the couch and rubs at her tired eyes. “Do you know where you tossed my clothes?”
“Unfortunately,” I mutter under my breath, hating that she needs to cover up that beautiful body.
Gigi gives me a cheeky as fuck grin as she puts on an award-winning show while getting dressed into her underwear. I get up off the couch and head over to the kitchen counter where her top lays carelessly on the floor. Scooping it up, I make my way back into the living room and reluctantly hand it over, watching with disappointment as she pulls it over her head. “I should have burned it,” I tell her.
With that, I get myself dressed, grab my shit off the table, and take her hand in mine to lead her out the door.
Chapter 23
GIGI
Sitting in the cutest little princess bed with Georgie curled up beside me, I close her bedtime story and get ready to tuck her in, wondering how the hell she so easily twists my arm. “Can you wread it again?” she asks, looking up at me with those big blue eyes, ones I’ve come to realize look exactly like her mom’s.
“No,” I laugh as I bop her nose with my finger. “I’ve already read it three times.”
She lets out a little huff before a cheeky sparkle lights up her eyes. “You could wread a different one,” she suggests. “You haven’t wread a different one free times.”
“Georgie,” I warn, trying to keep the smile from tearing across my face, knowing damn well if she were to try just one more time, I would cave.
“Fine,” she pouts, and I can just imagine that if we were anywhere else and she wasn’t curled up in her bed, she’d be stomping her little foot right about now. “Do you have to go?”
“No, not yet,” I smile as I reach over and grab her inhaler. “But you do need to take your medicine first.”
She instantly sits up and does an excellent job of taking slow deep breaths as I administer her Ventolin. Then as soon as she’s done, I replace the inhaler with a glass of water and she does a damn good job on that too, making me nervous about her bed sheets for the middle of the night.
She snuggles back into my side, and I curl my arm around her little body as Sean appears in her doorway, probably wondering why the hell this tuck-in is taking so long. “Do you want to know a secret?” I whisper.
“Uh-huh,” she says excitedly, her little head vigorously nodding up and down.
A wide grin cuts across my face and I try my best to smother it before giving her a serious stare. “My name isn’t Gigi,” I tell her.
Her mouth drops as she looks up at me in horror, her little mind blown. “Yes, it is,” she demands, her brows furrowed. “My daddy said it is.”
I shake my head and she looks at me as if I’m the biggest liar on the planet, and I don’t doubt she’s already planning on telling her daddy all about my wicked ways. “Gigi is my nickname, just like Georgie is your nickname.”
“Really?” she asks, with wide eyes.
“Uh-huh. My actual name is Georgia, just like yours.”
She sucks in the biggest breath I’ve ever seen, and I’m thankful she’s just had her inhaler. Excitement booms over her face. “Wow,” she laughs as she looks to her daddy for confirmation, clearly not believing it until her daddy says it’s so. He gives her a nod and she turns back to me before holding me tighter, her face squished into my shoulder. And call me crazy, but it’s almost as if she’s connecting herself to me with an invisible tether.
Placing her book on the floor, I scooch down in her bed, and she does the same before curling into my side again. I run my fingers through her hair and watch as the world’s biggest yawn rips through her chest. “Can I tell you something?” I say, quietly.
I feel her head nodding against my arm, as a strange nervousness settles into my heart. “I’m in love with your daddy, and if it’s alright with you, I’d like to spend some more time with the two of you.”
She’s silent for a moment, and as I look down at her, I find her brows furrowed, and it’s clear she’s deep in thought. Curiosity filters through my veins, and I glance at Sean, finding the same look in his eyes.
