He’d been played.

“And you, sweet little Leah, you have a price on your head, that I cannot let go.”

He watched as Leah was lifted up with something around her neck. Magic.

Killian had the sword in his hand, and he charged forward, only to be flung back. He got to his feet and attempted to charge, only to find two more witches in his path—Greta and Olivia.

“Sorry, little Wolfboy. You should have killed us when you had the chance.”

Killian didn’t have time to think, nor to question. He charged at the two witches. One of them faded, while the other laughed at him. He waved his sword at them, but they were able to deflect it. Whenever he had battled witches in the past, in human form, it had been useless.

Pouncing through the air, he split his skin, turning into the giant alpha wolf he knew himself to be. He saw the fear in Greta and Olivia’s eyes. Killian also knew these were Lucinda’s sisters. He didn’t know if killing them would hurt his friend, but he couldn’t allow them to hurt his mate.

Killian had fucked up. He knew this.

Greta and Olivia were full of dark magic, but neither of them were a match for his skill. Olivia went down first, he snapped her neck, taking out her threat, and sending her over the flames that danced around them. Witches could be killed, even dark ones. In fact, he had come to find that the darkest of witches were at times the most fragile. Greta remained, and she turned on her heel about to run, but he captured her.

“She’s going to kill Leah. She is going to turn her magic dark and then extract her powers.”

He turned his head to see that Rose had let Leah go, and now, because they were on the darkest of grounds, Leah might be the weakest of them. She had no Mother Nature to call upon. She was lost and alone.

Rose kept sending flames and attacking her with the vines on her body. He saw that Leah was cut in several places. The vines were not only slicing at her flesh, but cutting at her. The magic she possessed struggled.

What the fuck had he done?

“You know what you have to do,” Rose said. “To destroy me, you must succumb to the dark. Join me, Leah. You and I can make your mate wish he had never been born. We can torture him together. Turn him into our little dog.”

Killian had heard enough. He charged, shoving Rose to the ground, and as he went for the kill shot, she threw him away. He sensed that she tried to turn him back into his wolf form, but she was no match for him. No one could take his alpha away, not even a witch.

“That is not a nice way to treat the witch who’s going to help you,” Rose said, turning her attention to him.

Leah was on the ground. He felt how weak she was.

Fuck.

Shit.

Fuck.

Killian growled.

“Do you think you can defeat me? Poor little alpha,” she tutted. “Your only problem is you suck at understanding prophecies. You see, Leah is your salvation. I am your curse.”

“Hey!” Leah shouted and he turned. Rose went flying.

Leah was surrounding by green leaves, branches, life, Mother Nature. With every second that passed, he felt the earth beneath him spread. The dead ground came alive, fruitful, and full of grass. The scent filled his senses, and he felt the power coming from Leah. The very power that was also draining her.

“This is not his fight,” Leah said. “I’m what you want, come and get me.”

Rose charged forward, and a wall of leaves covered her. Something struck Rose from the back, and he turned to see Lucinda, Vivian, and Ryan, as well as many other witches within the coven. They were coming out of the forest. Lucinda was taking the helm, and he watched as the wall surrounding Leah faded, and his mate stepped out, came forward, and joined the coven.

Rose screamed and he watched as the darkness was stripped from her. Every single particle, every soul she had taken fled her body, and then a burst of light pierced her body, and her ashes fell to the ground. The land she had corrupted began to shake as Mother Nature came forth once again, no longer pushed aside.

As it did, Leah sunk to the ground and collapsed into a heap. Killian ran toward her.

“Leah, baby, Leah. What’s going on?” he asked, turning to Lucinda.

“She’s weak. What she just did, facing Rose without turning to dark magic, I have never seen such strength before in my life.”

“She is going to wake up?” he asked.

“Yes, she will wake up, but right now, we need to take her back to our coven, Killian,” Lucinda said.

Ryan stepped forward and took Leah from his arms.
