The rest of the men seem at ease and it bothers me more than it should. “Perhaps, but I don’t like it.”

“Me, either,” Simon say then pulls me towards the SUVs open door.

Getting in the front seat of the car, I wait a moment before I turn to Thaddeus. “How was the drive in?”

Shrugging his massive shoulders, he mutters, “Full of assholes.”

“Anything of note?” I ask and hear Simon and Lucifer in the back going silent.

“Nothing I could see,” he answers, and that’s all he needs to say.

He didn’t see it, but he’s feeling the same damn thing Simon and I are feeling.

“Three out of four makes a majority vote, Matthew,” Simon says from the back.

“Yes, I suppose it does.” Lucifer sighs. “Send a message out to all the circle and put security on full alert.”

“Doing it right now,” Simon says, and even I get a text.

“Sorry,” Simon says. “It’s going to literally all of the inner circle.”

“When will Eric be arriving?” Lucifer asks after a moment of silence.

I can hear the smile in Simon’s voice and feel a chill down my spine. “Three weeks from today.”

Halfway to the warehouse something that has been nagging me in the back of my brain comes to the surface.

It’s a very simple thought.

Misery loves company.

That’s the truest of sayings, even if I look only in this car for examples.

Lucifer and Lily.

Simon and Meredith.

Eden and me.

Thaddeus, the poor brother of mine, is the odd man out.

My memories of the last couple weeks slowly flood through my mind and I remember the woman Eden was friendly with.

Sonya.

She’s a gorgeous single mother. Not quite on the same angelic level as my dear Eden, but still beautiful.

“Thad,” I say after I think for a long moment on how to broach this.

Taking his eyes off the road for a second, Thaddeus looks at me.

“Given the circumstances of all the men in this car, I feel it’s my duty to aid you,” I say.

Thaddeus looks at me with annoyance and growls, “In what?”

“How do you feel about children?” I ask, and sense Simon and Lucifer both paying attention to what I have to say.

“They’re small and eat a lot,” Thad answers.

“What about single mothers?” I ask.

Shrugging his shoulders, he says, “What should I feel?”

“Well, there’s this woman I’ve met recently, and to be frank, she’s quite beautiful and has a child. Since the rest of the family, beyond a few outliers, which you are one of, is married, I feel it’s a duty of mine to assist you in finding a family,” I say.

“I can find a woman,” Thaddeus growls at me.

Lucifer chuckles and I can just feel Simon rolling his eyes.

“We don’t need to kidnap any more women to marry into the family,” Simon snips from behind us before I hear him start tapping on his keyboard.

“I never said he had to ransack a village and be off with their women, Simon,” I say with a snip of my own.

“Well, to be fair…” Lucifer chuckles again. “The predominant number of women in our family have come from… less than ideal circumstances.”

“Perhaps we should break from the norm then with Thad,” I say and look to my hulking friend who is slowly beginning to tense up.

If I look at Thaddeus in all aspects, he’s a handsome man himself. Rugged, dark blonde hair, piercing blue eyes, and he’s a mountain. So much so he almost makes Gabriel look small.

“How so?” Lucifer asks.

“Well, I thought perhaps we could have a date night for Eden and I. Perhaps one of my brothers could watch my son?” I ask.

“Well, of course,” Lucifer says. “Lily is dying to meet little Abel. But I do not see how this would aid our dear brethren.”

“I thought perhaps with that date night we could do a sort of blind date,” I say and smile at Thad. “She really is quite a fetching woman. From what Eden has said, her son, Alex, is quite the sweet child.”

“No.” Thaddeus grunts, and I watch as his hands gripping the steering wheel go white from how hard he’s squeezing it.

“Oh, come now,” Lucifer joins in with me. “I think this would be a wonderful idea.”

“Stop it, both of you,” Simon says from behind his laptop. “Thaddeus has decided to not join the funny farm. Leave him be.”

“You know,” I say, turning to face Simon. “One time, you were dead set against children and family, if I remember correctly.”

“Things changed quite rapidly,” Simon says, still typing away. “What did you say the woman’s name was?”

“Sonya. She was Eden’s neighbor before Eden came to live with me,” I answer. “Why do you ask?”

“If she was a neighbor of Eden’s and she considered her trustworthy enough to watch her child then she bears looking into. Also, Sonya and Alex? Quite the Russian names at a time when we’re at war with the Russians,” Simon says.
