Unlocking my phone, I go to text Mel and see how she’s doing when I find a text already waiting from her.
Mel – Still going to be another hour. Tom is going to pick me up. Go home and spend the night with your man. Love you xxx
Getting back to my feet, a wide smile stretches over my face, and I quickly reply as I make my way to the door, more than happy to get out of here if it means spending the night with Sean.
Gigi – No problem. I’ll see you tomorrow. Love you, too. Xx
Making my way out to my car, I bring up Sean’s number and shove the phone between my ear and shoulder as I search through my bag for my keys. He answers almost immediately and a soft smile begins spreading over my lips when I hear his deep voice. “Well . . . look who’s dying for my attention again?” he jokes.
“Shut up,” I laugh, finally finding the keys and unlocking the car. “What are you doing?”
“Just getting home,” he tells me. “I had a massive day in court.”
“Oh, that’s right. How’d your case go?” I ask.
“Do you even need to ask?” he scoffs. “You should know by now that I never lose.”
“Ooooh,” I tease, dropping down into my car and pulling the door closed behind me. “You know, I think I remember seeing somewhere that you only had a 98% conviction rate, not 100, and honestly . . . aren’t you embarrassed?”
“Not at all,” he laughs. “I did that on purpose. It’s important that those other lawyers think they might stand a chance against me. 100% just seems too unachievable for them. You know, I’m all about the little people.”
“Ha,” I laugh. “That seems about right.”
He lets out a laugh that wraps right around me. “Are you heading home?” he asks.
“I was going to, but Mel’s working late and seeing Tom tonight.”
“Oh, I see how it is,” he teases. “Your original plan bailed and now you want me.”
I scoff, unable to wipe the wide grin off my face as I jam the key into the ignition and start my car. “Ugh. Presumptuous much? I never said I wanted to go to your place.”
“Like you could fucking resist,” he tells me, and damn it, he’s never been so right.
“I know,” I laugh. “You’re always my first choice. You know that, right?”
“I do,” he murmurs. “Now hurry up and get that sweet ass over here. Georgie’s cooking.”
Oh no.
A laugh rumbles through my chest, a wide grin stretched across my face as I picture our impending doom so perfectly. “I can’t wait,” I tell him. He says a quick goodbye, and I end the call, throwing my phone down on the passenger side before putting my car in reverse and backing out of my spot.
Fifteen minutes later, I pull into Sean’s ridiculously long driveway before coming to a stop right at the top. Reaching into the back, I grab my overnight bag that I’ve learned to always keep packed and ready to go. As I get out of the car, I find myself staring up at the big house, still amazed by its sheer size.
Not bothering to knock, I push my way through the door and the smell of burned Bolognese sauce instantly assaults my senses. A grin pulls at my lips, and I kick my shoes off before walking deeper into Sean’s house. From the kitchen doorway, I find Georgie standing on a chair and stirring her pot of sauce while Sean stands protectively behind her.
“Hi,” I smile, taking it all in.
Georgie squeals and pushes her dad out of the way so she can launch herself off the chair and bolt toward me. I catch her in my arms and pull her in tight as Sean turns off the stove and walks over to us, wrapping his arms around both of us and pressing his lips to mine in the sweetest kiss.
“Eeeewwwwwwwww,” Georgie whines, dragging it out until she physically can’t hold the word a second longer. “No kissing.”
Sean kisses me again, and I feel the smile on his lips as he teases his little girl. “But I like kissing her,” he tells her.
“No,” she demands, shoving her little fist into his chest and pushing him away. “She’s mine.”
“Nu-uh,” he fights back. “She’s mine.”
Georgie scrunches her face up and sticks her tongue out at her daddy, so I put her down before this shit gets out of hand. Then hearing her shows in the living room, she forgets all about me and takes off like a rocket, singing her songs at the top of her lungs.
With Georgie out of my arms, Sean lunges for me, and I fall right into him where I belong. His hands find my ass, and he lifts me right up onto the counter, stepping between my legs and bringing his lips down on mine in a deep kiss.
