Sean’s hand squeezes my thigh and pulls me out of my thoughts. “I wanted to do something special and blow you away with a grand gesture when I asked you to move in, but someone has a big mouth.”
I can’t help but flick my gaze back to Georgia, finding her completely engrossed in her pizza. A smile rips across my face, so damn in love with this little girl. Glancing back at Sean, I take his hands and clutch them as though they are my only lifeline. “Are you sure?” I question. “It’s not too soon?”
“It’s not soon enough,” he tells me. “I want you here every day, Gigi. I want us to build a life together. I want to wake up every morning and see your beautiful face looking back at me. What we have is something I’ll never find again. So yeah, I’m ready to take that leap with you and start the rest of our lives.”
I blink back tears as I reach up and take his face in my hands, warmth spreading through my chest and making my heart swell with love. “You’re not going to change your mind?” I ask.
He shakes his head, not taking his eyes off mine for even a second. “No, Gigi. Never,” he tells me, pulling me into him and kissing me deeply. The second he releases my lips, he rests his forehead against mine and laces our fingers together. “What do you say, babe? Would you like to move in with us?”
A smile spreads over my face. “Yes,” I whisper, the tears falling down my cheeks. “I’d love to.”
Sean beams back at me before pulling me right into his arms, scooping me off the chair and getting to his feet, spinning us around as he kisses me with everything he’s got.
“Eeewwwwwwwww,” comes from that sweet little voice across the table.
I laugh, pulling back just enough to break our kiss, but when I meet his gaze, I find him deep in thought, a slight crease appearing between his eyes. “What’s wrong?” I ask.
“I have one condition,” he says, settling me back on my feet and keeping his hands on my waist. My mind rushes through all the possibilities, wondering what it could be, and I give a slow nod, desperate to hear this mystery condition. “I want you sleeping in my bedroom.”
My eyes widen, and I suck in a breath. Could I do that? Can I sleep in the same bed where his wife once slept? Unease rattles my chest, and I bite down on my healed lip, knowing that for him, I’ll try. “I’ll make a deal with you,” I say.
“Go ahead,” he says, his gaze narrowing in suspicion, looking a little terrified.
“I’ll sleep in your bedroom if you get a new bed . . . and mattress,” I say. “Oh, and new sheets. I want to love you, Sean, but I don’t want to replace her. We need our own bed, one that’s just ours.”
He nods, understanding in his eyes. “I can do that,” he tells me.
“I wasn’t quite finished,” I tell him with a cringe, not sure how he’s going to take this one.
“What else, your highness?”
I swallow hard as I prepare for the one thing he might have a problem with. “Can we limit the photos of Sara in the bedroom to just one small one?” His brows furrow as I continue, really hoping he understands where I’m coming from. Then sparing a glance at Georgie, I cringe and try to get this out without saying too much. “We can’t be, umm . . . you know, going to town in there while she’s staring at me uhhhh . . . playing hide and seek with her husband.”
He lets out a breath and I know it’s hard for him to let me in like this, but he’s trying so hard to give me his whole world. “You have yourself a deal,” he murmurs, as I make myself a promise to put those same photos in another area of the house, somewhere I know Sean will see them every day.
“Thank you,” I whisper.
He takes my hand in his before letting out a breath. “Now that’s out of the way,” he grins before dropping down to one knee again.
“Don’t push your luck,” I laugh.
Sean smirks up at me before flying to his feet and lifting me back into his arms and crushing his lips down on mine. “It was worth a shot,” he tells me before finally allowing us to finish our dinner, only the whole time he holds me in his lap.
It’s well after Georgie’s bedtime when I finally get a chance to check in with Mel, and I crash down on the oversized couch, my phone in hand.
Gigi – So, uhh . . . I sort of agreed to move in with Sean.
