“How was your day?” he asks, giving me a moment to catch my breath.

“Amazing. I could pull babies out of vaginas all day,” I tell him, watching as he shudders, the memory of helping Lucia deliver her baby on the street still too fresh in his mind. “I wish there were more hours in the day.”

“Me too,” he agrees, leaning in and letting his lips brush over mine as he talks. “But not so I can work more.”

I reach forward and hook my fingers into the waistband of his pants and pull him right into me. “Pray, tell. What would you do with your extra hours?” I whisper as I look up at him through my lashes.

His hands wrap around my body, and he scoots me to the very edge of the counter so that I feel his very hard cock grinding against my core. “You,” he tells me. “Always you.”

A fond smile stretches across my lips as I look up at him, meeting those intense, dark eyes. I couldn’t agree more. If I could spend my life with him between the sheets, I would.

Sean’s hand wraps around the back of my neck, and I tilt my chin up just as his warm lips come down on the sensitive skin below my ear, and I have to force myself not to moan, knowing Georgie is in the other room.

My hands slip up under his shirt and roam over his strong chest, never wanting to take my hands off him. “Dinner smells . . . interesting,” I tell him.

“Yeah,” he chuckles, a fondness flashing in his eyes. “I ordered pizza the second she said she wanted to cook.”

“Oh, thank God,” I breathe just as the doorbell sounds through the house.

“Good timing,” he tells me, reluctantly pulling away to answer the door.

Jumping down from the counter, I pull some plates out of the cupboard before putting them out on the dining table then doubling back for some glasses. “Georgie, honey. Dinner is ready.”

She comes bolting out of the living room and flies up into her chair at the table, excitement brimming in her bright eyes. Sean comes in with the pizza and Georgie’s face falls. “Where’s my sketti?” she asks, the disappointment in her tone breaking my heart.

Sean opens his mouth to answer, but I see him stumbling over how to explain her dinner wasn’t edible, so I fix a pout on my face and reach across the table to take her little hand in mine. “Your daddy burned the sauce while you were playing,” I tell her.

She sucks in a breath, completely horrified as she looks at her father. “Daddy,” she whines.

“I’m sorry, baby,” he says, taking the seat beside her and opening the pizza box.

“Maybe you should give him some cooking lessons,” I suggest, ever so helpful.

Georgie’s whole face brightens, and the way her eyes beam back at me has me feeling as though I could do or be anything I want in this big wide world. “Yeah, and den you could helwp when you live wid us.”

“Oh no,” Sean breathes, dropping his face into his hand.

My heart starts to race, and I look at Sean, taking in the dread etched into his handsome face. “I’m sorry?” I ask, willing my heart to calm for just a moment. I mean, I could have sworn she said that I was going to live with them.

Seeing Sean hasn’t responded, Georgie takes it into her own hands again, digging Sean a deeper hole. “Daddy towld me you were going to live wid us.”

I look over at Sean before turning back to Georgie with a comforting smile. “Did he just?”

She nods her head before scooping up a slice of pizza and shoving it into her mouth as Sean glances up and looks at his daughter. “Thanks, kid,” he grunts.

“Dat’s okay, Daddy,” she says, oblivious to the tension now floating around the room.

Sean’s gaze shifts to mine, and I see the question deep within them, and I watch as he gets up and walks around the table. He drops down to one knee beside me, and I gasp as I take him in, my stomach in knots.

He takes in the look on my face before glancing down at his position, his eyes widening in horror. “Oh shit, no,” he rushes out. “This is really not going how I imagined it would.”

Sean shakes his head, dragging a hand down his face before glancing back up at me. “Sorry, I just needed to be closer to you.”

Letting out a relieved breath, I feel my heart finally begin to return to a normal rate. Marriage is not something I see for us. Don’t get me wrong. I fully intend to spend the rest of my life with him, but he has a wife. She may not be here anymore, but it’s not a territory I want to go stomping all over. At least, I don’t think so. Maybe in a few years we can revisit the topic.
