I shiver.
“Sounds good to me,” I murmur.
He presses a kiss to my neck and releases me.
A feeling washes through me, a sensation unlike anything I’ve felt before.
Nobody has ever kissed me like that.
It sounds stupid, I know, but it was different to the usual neck kiss someone gives you to turn you on.
It was the same kind of kiss someone gives you on your forehead, a gentle kiss, a kiss that has feeling.
Well damn.
Who is Remy, and where do I get more of him?
AS REMY USES THE BATHROOM to clean up, I take my chance to get information.
I rush to the desk and start quickly looking through the drawers, on the desk, in the filing cabinet. I have minutes, if I’m lucky. Eyes darting to the door every few seconds, I take photos of anything that might benefit my father. I don’t know what half of it is, but there are a few papers that look like they’re packed with information. Names and numbers, locations and dates. It’s the best I’ve got.
I just sit back on the sofa when Remy walks out, fully dressed again. I cleaned up first, so I’m ready to get back into it. I give him a smile, as if I wasn’t just shuffling through everything in this room. “You better go find your princess, she’s probably still waiting in her tower for you.”
Remy grins. “Trust me, babe. That ain’t no princess.”
I laugh, taking his hand when he extends it. “What is she then?”
“She’s the fuckin’ evil step sister.”
I chuckle as we walk back out and Remy locks the door again. I turn to him and take a swift bow. “I guess that’s my cue. Thanks for the ride, Remy.”
He grins at me, and I throw him a wink before turning and joining the crowd again. Needing a bit of fresh air, I walk outside and stand away from the crowds of people.
“There you are!”
I turn to see Eve, Poppy, and Ramona walking toward me, drinks in their hands.
“We’ve been looking for you, we thought you left,” Poppy tells me.
“Oh, I got caught up.” I grin, taking the drink Eve hands me.
“That sounds like a story I want to hear.” Ramona leans in, brows raised.
I grin at her. “I was enjoying a little one on one time with Remy.”
“Girl what?” Eve shrieks. “How the? When? Just now?”
I laugh. “Yep.”
“So you two ....” Ramona makes a thrusting motion.
“Oh, yes,” I confirm.
“Damn, girl, you don’t waste any time.” Poppy nods her approval. “That man is fine.”
“You’d know.” Eve winks at her.
“Wait,” I say, spinning to Poppy. “You’ve been with Remy?”
Poppy laughs. “Once, and it was mostly to get at Beckett. But, I’m sure you know, it wasn’t a waste of time.”
I nod. “Oh, definitely not.”
“How did you go from drinking to fucking the hot biker?” Eve asks.
I tell them the whole story, and they listen intently, big smiles on their faces.
“Wow.” Ramona nods when I’m done. “You don’t waste any time. I like it. I like a girl who knows what she wants.”
“Speaking of,” Poppy says, rubbing her belly, “I know what I want, and it’s one of Eve’s muffins. Can we sneak into Wildflowers?”
Eve claps her hands. “Let me go and steal a bottle of vodka, and then yeah, we’re in.”
She turns and rushes off. I take a sip of the drink in my hand.
“So, are you and Remy a thing?” Poppy asks.
“No,” I say quickly. “No, I don’t do things. We’re just fucking.”
“That’s what everyone says, until they aren’t,” Ramona points out.
“I’m sure plenty of girls say this, but I’m the rare occasion where it doesn’t go to shit.” I laugh. “I don’t do attachment, never have, never will. Remy is good with that. We’re fine.”
“You’ve never been in love then?” Poppy asks, leaning against the railing for the stairs.
“Nope,” I admit. “Not even close. I’ve had boyfriends, liked them, all of that. But, yeah, attachment, love and romance isn’t really my thing. Sex, on the other hand ...”
“Well,” Poppy says with a wink, “you certainly found the right person to satisfy that need.”
Ramona nods. “Remy is hot.”
“As fuck,” I agree.
“Okay,” Eve says, returning with a bottle of vodka in her hands. “Let’s go.”
“Isn’t Riggs going to wonder where you are?” Poppy asks her.
“Nope, I told him where we are going. They’re all busy playing pool. They’ll come by soon. Let’s roll.”
Sounds damned good to me.
We walk over to Wildflowers and Eve unlocks the door. We take a seat at the table, opening the bottle of vodka and pouring it into some orange juice Eve brings out, along with some leftover pastries she had from today’s efforts. She has heated them up, and while drunk, they’re damned delicious. As I drink and talk, I forget about the mission and why I’m actually here. I keep thinking about how good it feels to be making friends, and working, and getting my life back in order.
